Mr. Jas.' Bengough underwent an
operation en the Clifiton hospital on
Wednesday for appendicitis and is
now doing as well as can be expected.
Mrs. Wm. Buchanan last week re-
ceived the sad news of the deatb of
hex son William, of Dauphin, Man,
Mr. Buchanan was sick only a few
days and easeed away, on, Friday
last, and will be well remembered by
the people of Hens•all, having spent
,his boyhood •dayi here, and having
-spent several winters with his mother
here. He leaves to mourn his loss,
his mother, :airs, Wm Buchanan of
Heesall, two sons Clifford, Dauphin,
.Menieeend Hewerd of Chicago, two
daughters, Mrs. Gordon Coe: of Dau-
phin, and Miss Irene, of 'Winnipeg;
three sisters, Mrs. Jas. Hope of Van-
couver; Mrs, Agnes McDonald of
Hensall, and Miss Margaret of To-
ronto; and five brothers, Robert of

New Year's services will be held in
our local churches on Sunday text.
• Armstrong-Buchanan.-ee quiet but
pretty wedding was solemnized at
high noon on Saturday at the United
Church manse when Miss Jessie Bu-
chanan, daughter 'of Mr. and Mrs.
A:ex. Buchanan of Hensall was unit-
ed in marriage to :We Geerge Arm-
strong, son of Mr. Wm, Armstrong
of Hay Township. Rev. Arthur Sin-
clair officiated. The bride was be-
comingly attired in brown georgette
with black seal coat and hat to Match.
Following the ceremony a wedding
dinner was served at the bride's horne
after which they left on a wedding
trip to Detroit. Mr. and Mrs. Arm-
strong will take ep their residence on
the groom's farm southwest of Hen -
salt. ,

Geiger's address Reeve I-Iiggins was
again calledon and answered all
criticisms effectively. . The Reeve
\YRS in great form and made a splen-
did reply' creating a veier • favorable

'Born. -en Seaforth Hospital, on
Monday, Dec. 22nd, to Mr. and Mrs.
Laird Mickle, a son (William Laird).
The Hensall Fire Brigade put on
their annual Xmas Tree on Tuesday
afternoon. There was a large crowd
in the village and huriereds, of little
folk gathered around the tree. Santa
Claus arrived in the village about 2.3e
seclock and was seedily welcomed .by.
the large crowd present and Mr.
Fred Hess took a photo of Santa
Claus Red his outfit. • 'Santa Claus
then epoke from the, platform for a
few minutes and the children sang a
Xmas song. • Reeve Higgins was then
called on for an address and he wel-
comed Santa Claus and , the large
crowd to the village. The .reeve was
followed by the Rev. Mr. Sinclair and
Rev. Mr. Parker; also by Councillors
Petty. Ortwein and' Consitt, also
exereeve Geiger.
At the close of the speaking Reeve
Higgins thanked the business men of
the village and all the others who
helped the firemen make the Xmas
Treet possible. The presents were
then dietribiited. 'Every child present
received a package and other presents
were disitributed from the tree. The
firemen are to be congretulated on
their success and also for the way
they had their tree decorated. This
is new an annual event and is looked
forward to eagerly by all the children.
• The Sunday School of St. Paul's
Anglican Church held their Xmas en-
tertainanent on Monday evening in the
Church. The Rev. Mr. Parker acted
as chairman and Mrs. Goodwin as
pianist. The following program ems

The Sunday School of the Carmel
Preebyterian Church held their Xmas
enteetainment on Monday evening in
the basement of the Church. The fol-
lowing program was given: Choruses
and Carols by the Sunday School;
Recitations by Lois McLiren, Bobby
Cameron, Bobby Sangster. Mary
Little, Margaret Sangster; Vocal
duets by Elaine and Emily Hoskins,
Mary Huiser and Dorothy Little:
solos by Marian McLaren, and Bert
Thompson; instrumentals, Jim Mus-
tard and an introduction of the Xmas
tree by John McTiroy and Harvey
Hudson; after ,which the presents
were distributed from the tree.

Funeral of Richard Smith. -Death
came suddenly on 'Monday afternoon
to Richard Smith Of this village.
The deceased was born in McGinty-
ary township, seventh son of the late
Mr, and Mrs. Abraeam Smith, In
1894 he was married to Miss Ada
Steele of London Tp. To this union
was born one son Melville Roy, Came
first to Hayfieldabout forty years age
and in 1900 was married to Miss Mar-
garet Lindsay and sinee that time has
made his home in this .vicinity. One
SOB Lindsay was born of this union.
For many years the deceased follow-
ed the trade of a carpenter but since
his second marriage he took up farm-
ing on the Sauble line in the village.
For a number of years he was a rural
mail courier and foe the past few
years has been the contractor for two
routes, Owing to failing health end
deafness he has eot been able to do
the work himself for the past year.
On Monday he had: seemed to be in
good health, heart seizure suddenly
took him, passing away before medi-
cal aid arrived.
The funeral was held from .his late
home on Wed•nescliay afternoon con-
ducted by Rev, F, H. Paull, interment
being made in the 13ay,field. cemetery.
The pallbearers were J, Wild, Brown
Higgins, Russell Heard, R. Penhale,
J. Castle and Albert Leitch. Besides
hi.s. sorrowing widow and tw-o sons he
leaves one sister, Mrs. W. D. Munro
of Wilton Grove, the only survieing
member of a family of nine.
Christmas Eve service was held at
11.30 p,m. in Trinity Church. There
Was a very good ettendlance. , Christ-
mas carols were sung and, special
music by'the choir.
