The regular monthly meeting of
:the llr.,14 S, of Duff's United Church,
`Walton, was held at the home of Mrs,
`D, McCallum. Mrs. O, Turnbull pres-
ided. The meeting was opened by sing-
ing hymn 90, after which the Lord's
...prayer was repeated in liaison. The
.devotional leaflet, `Be of Good Cheer'
was read by Mrs. A. McCall. Hymn
-4417 was sung. The topic was given
nay Mrs. 21. Kirkby, Minutes of the
,July .meeting ,were read and adopted.
The roll call, was answered by a wo-
;man's name mentioned in the eighth
jive books of the Bible, Mrs. Robert-
Reid closed with'. prayer. There were
,:about fifty ladies present.

.'after a pleasant holiday with his aunt

Mr, Wilfred 'Turnbull of the 16th

day and the following day was oper-
,ated on at his home for appendicitis,

: that Itis illnesss was of .a more serious

:that he will make a speedy recovery.
'Miss Buckley who was visiting at

.week was called to her home in Strat-
ford owing to the death of her father,
John Edward Buckley. on Thursday
last front a heart attack. He was 59
years of age and had been in the em-
ploy of :he C.N.R. for thirty-three
years. The funeral took place from St.
-Joseph's Roman Catholic Church to
Avondale cemetery.

Burns -Robertson. — A pretty mid-
stunmer wedding took place at 12 o'-
clock Hoon on Saturday at the home
of lir. and. Mrs. William Robertson,
Wingham, when their youngest dau-
ghter, Mary Denholm, was united in
marriage to William Burns, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Burns, of
Dumfries shire, Scotland. Rev. Ken-
neth McLean officiated, The bride
was given in marriage by her father,
She wore a gown of sand georgette,
trimmed with chantilly lace, and car-
ried a bouquet of roses and ferns.
Mrs. George, Tervitt acted as matron
of honor, and the bridegroom was as-
sisted by Clifford Robertson. The
wedding march was played by Mrs.
George Johnston, of Niagara Falls.

Burns left on a short motor trip
through Southern Ontario. On their

A joint meeting of the W.M.S. and
Ladies' Aid of the Queen street Unit-
ed Church took the form of an out-
door meet ng and was held at the
home of MIs Chas. Grasby on Tues-
day, August 1atbt, with a good at-
tendance of members and visitors pre-
sent. The Ladies' Aid led the .de-
votional exercises with the president,

business session. Mrs. MV. H. Mc-
Elroy closed the meeting with 'pray-
er, to allow the W.MM,S, to proceed
with their Birthday and Mite ,Box
meeting, Mrs. Chas. Granby had
charge of the program, reading the
leaflet "Be of Good Cheer," Mrs. :Mc-
Elroy offered prayer. Very instruc-
tive leaflets were read by Mrs. H. Mc-
Elroy, "A Family Mite Box";Mrs.
Colclough, "The First Mite ox Of-
fering." A hymn on the gramophone
followed. Mrs. Fawcett, "How to use
the Mite Box"; Mrs. Cartwright,
"Blossoms and Boxes"; then a selec-
tion on the gramophone. The presid-
ent then took the chair for business.
A letter was read by the Secretary,
from Arriksdale, Manitoba, stating the
hospital supplies had arrived safely.
Miss A, M. Haines of Toronto gave a
brief talk on the unemployed in • the
city. Alter singing hymn 56, Mrs.
Maines closed the meeting with pray-
er. Lunch was then served and a
social time spent which was enjoyed
by all.
Misses Velma and Roberta Craig,

TO OWNERS AND OPERATORS OF MOTOR VEHICLES
FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY LAW
A New Measure for Safety on the Highways in effect SEPTEMBER 1st, 1930
HE amendment to The Highway Traffic Act, known as the
"Financial Responsibility Law," will come into effect on
September 1,
PURPOSE of the LAW
The purpose of the Financial Responsibility Law is . to further
encourage safe driving of motor vehicles, in the interest of the public.
as well as of owners and drivers.
WHAT the LAW will ACCOMPLISH
No motorist is affected by this Law until he brings himself within
its provisions. It will not impose any obligation upon those who
drive safely and obey The Highway Traffic Act, and who, in of
accieent, pay judgments rendered against them for injury done to
persons or property.
HOW the LAW will -OPERATE
Upon conviction of an operator of a motor vehicle for any one of
the offences named below, his driver's license and all motor vehicle
permits issued to him will be suspended until such operator or owner
gives proof of his ability to compensate financially those whom he
may endanger in the future.
The OFFENCES
Following are the offences named:
(a) reckless driving, if any injury to, person ur property occurs in
connection therewith.
(b) racing on the•highways, which is prohibited by The' �
Traffic Act. PHighway
(c) exceeding the speed limit, if any injury to any person or property
occurs in connection therewith,
(d) failing to remain at or return to the scene of an accident and to
furnish the names and addresses of driver and owner of vehicle
and failingto render all possible assistance,if directly or indirectly
a party to the accident.
(e) driving a motor vehicle on a highway without holding a driver's
license.

- NON-PAYMENT of .JUDGMENTS
If the holder of a driver's license or owner's permit fails to satisfy
a judgment rendered against him for damages on accountof injury
to, or death of, any person, or on account of damage to property
in excess of $100, occasioned by a motor vehicle, within 15 days
from date of judgment, such license or permit shall be suspended
until such judgment is satisfied to the extent of at least $5,000 for
injury to, or death of, any one person and, subject to that limit, for
each person so injured or killed to the extent of at least $10,000 for
injury to, or death of, two or more persons in any one accident, and
to the extent, of at least $1,000 for damage to property of others
resulting from any one accident, and until such person gives proof ' '
of his financial responsibility in case of future accident
.OFFENCES OUTSIDE ONTARIO
By Drivers Licensed in this Province
For similar offences committed in other Provinces or States of the
United States and reported to the Registrar of Motor Vehicles of
Ontario under reciprocal arrangements, the Minister of Highways
shall suspend the driver's license and owner's permit until that
driver or owner has given proof of financial responsibility in the same
manner as if the offence had been committed in Ontario.
PROOF of FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILIITY
Amounts and How to Give
Proof of.financial responsibility shall be given in the following amounts
by every driver and in the case of an owner in the same amounts
for each 'motor vehicle registered in his name:—
(a) at Least $5,000 for injury to, or death of, any one person and,
subject to that limit for each person so injured or killed, at least
$10,000 for injury or death of two or more persons in any one
accident.
(b) At least $1,00b for damage to property of others resulting from
any one accident.
Proof of financial responsibility may be given in any one of the
following forms:
(a) The written certificate filedwiththe Registrar of Motor Vehicles
of any authorized insurer that it has issued to the person named
a motor vehicle liability policy or policies Which at the date of
the certificate is in full force, and effect.
(b) The bond of a guarantee insurance or surety company licensed
in Ontario, or a bond with personal sureties approved as adequate.
(c) The certificate of the Treasurer of the Province that the person
named has deposited with him a sum of money or securities 101^
money approved by hien to the amount or value of'$11,000:for
eachmotor vehicle registered to the name of such person.
PUBLIC NOW PROTECTED by INCONTESTABLE
INSURANCE
In the event of damage being done by the owner or driver of a motor
vehicle to another person or to property of another person, and such
owner or driver holds an insurance policy to pay the legal liability
of the insured fur such damage, and if 'through misrepresentation
upon the application for such policy or in the event of a breach by
the insured of any term, provision or condition of the policy which
would relieve the insurer from liability, the insurance companymust
nevertheless under the Safety Responsibility Law, pay the damage
to the person injured up to the limits named above, but in such case
the insurance company by a provision in their policy may have the
rightto recover from the person insured the amount or amounts so
paid in liquidation of the damages for the injury he has done to the
persons or property of others, including interest and costs.
REPORTING of ACCIDENTS
Every person in charge of a motor vehicle who is directly or indirectly
involved in an accident; if the accident results in personal injuries
or in damage to property apparently exceeding $50, shall report
such accident forthwith I the nearest provincial or municipal' police -
officer and shall furnish such information or written statement con-
cerning the accident as may be required by the officer or by the
Registrar of Motor Vehict
