was severely burned about the face on
.Friday night, when the gas tank of his
ear bust into flames while he was
looking for the tank cap with a match.
The accident occurred on the Kipen
road just south of Egmondville, He
remained at the Commerial hotel till
Mondayy under the doctor's 'care.
Miss Mae' McClinchey, trained
nurse, returned Wednesday, to Toron-
to after a' holiday at the home of her
parents, Mr. and Mrs, Joseph Mc-

Mr. Frank Wright, of Detroit, visit-
ed his mother, Mrs. A. Wright, Jarvis

Mr. James Henderson, who was
taken ill with pneumonia in Brussels
two weeks ago, returned home last
Wednesday evening, greatly improved.

Mrs. Thos. Dayman and two chil-
dren,

and Mrs. George Squires and family
of Granton, this week.
Mr. Robert Elgie, Jr., visited its
London recently.
Mr. Robert Dayman has been laid
up with pleurisy this past week but
his many friends are glad to hear
that he is improving,
Mr. and Mrs. Orval Cann visited
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Dayman on Sun-
day last.
Miss Jennie Chesney is not improv-
ing as fast as her many friends would
like to see.
Mr. Warren Schilbe, after being
confined in the house for a week, is
able to be around again.
Mr. and Mrs, Joseph Dayman, of
Detroit, are at present visiting iu this
vicinity.
Quite a number from these parts at-
tended the Minstrel concert at Bruce -
field on Friday evening and all en-
joyed a good laugh.
Mrs, W. W. Cooper returned home
on Saturday evening after spending a
month in London hospital. Her
many friends are glad to know she is
much improved.
Mr. and Mrs, W. E. Butt, of the
village entertained a large number of
their friends to a social bail in the hall
one night recently and all enjoyed it
very much,
Mr. R. J. Daymar ,has been confined
to his room the past week with a sev-
ere attack of pleurisy but is improving.
Mrs. W. M. Doig and Miss Janet
have returned home after spending
the past 3 months in Port Huron.
The managers and shed committee
of St, Andrew's have decided not to
build the new shed for some time and
intend repairing the old one, which
is serviceable for a few years.
Mrs, Sinclair, Sr., of the. Kippen
road, has been under the doctor's care
for the_past week.
Mrs. John Henderson was taken to
Seaforth hospital on Sunday last for
treatment and is doing very nicely at
present.
Mrs. R. R. Geohegan and son re-
turned home' to London- after visiting
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Mc-

Miss Elsie Gardiner, second daugh-
ter of Mr. and Mrs. David Gardiner
and Mr, Heber Shute. only son of the
late John Shute and Mrs. Shute, was

The Marion Ritchie Auxiliary of the
Presbyterian church met on Saturday

stent of the church on Sunday after-
noon with ten present. :vfuriel Carlile
presided over the meeting. Annie Jar-
rott read the Scripture lesson. Mr.
Carlile led in prayer. The topic was
taken from Please Stand By, by Mr.
Carlile. • The meeting .closed with a
hymn and the Mizpah benediction,
The Sacrament of. the Lord's sup-
per will be held in Hillsgreen church
on Mar. 25. The preparatory service
will be on Friday evening at 8 o'clock.
Quite a number of the town -line
took in the dance given by Mr. Edgar
Butt in the Kippen hall last Thursday
night and all report a good time.
Mrs. Francis Coleman is visiting
friends in, Bay City, Michigan.

The Late 'Thomas Clarke.-- The
' death took place in Exeter on SAW-
day,
atterday, March 10, of Thomas Clarke,
aged 71 years, 11 months. The de-
ceased had been ailing for about two
weeks with pleurisy, which resulted in
his death, Mr. Clarke was born iu
tisborne tp;, where he lived until
corning to Exeter 4 years ago last
fall, Mrs. Clarke predeceased •him
last September. Three daughters and
three sons survive; Mrs. M. L. Beav-
ers, Woodham; David, Exeter; Ed-
ward, Huntington, W, Virginia, who
accompanied by his wife, arrived in
Exeter a fewdays before his father
died; Nelson, Usborne; Mrs. Wilson
Hawkins, Seaforth, and Mrs. J.
Simpson, of Winchelsed," One brother
and two sisters survive; Wm, Clarke,
Osborne; Mrs. Wesley Mills, St,
Marys; Mrs. Wm, Sawyer, Vancouver,
The funeral was held Monday, March

Robt. McKinley presented a life mem-
bership certificate of the W.M.S. tri

presented a handsome wicker chair
to Mr. Johnston anti a teacher's Bible
to their elder son, Mr. George E.
Johnston and a set of military brushes
to Mr. Wilbur. Johnston. Mr. John-
ston made a suitable reply, express-
ing his regret at leaving the many
kind friends and the valued church as-
sociations. Mr, and Mrs. Johnston
intend moving to Goderich as they
have sold their farm to Mr, Johnston,
of Varna,

after their recent operations for ap-
pendicitis in the Seaforth hospital,
Miss Mary Drown spent last week
in Toronto visiting with Miss Jean
Hamilton.

West on Monday .after visiting sev-
eral weeks with his mother.
The W.M.S. met at the parsonage
on Tuesday afternoon with a good at-
tendance. This society is having a
lady missionary speaker the first Sun-
day in April.
