Ken Doig Wins
At Strathroy
Ken Doig of Seaforth, utilizing
a hot putter, captured the annual
Strathroy Invitational Golf Tour-
nament with a 71, two strokes
ahead of his nearest competitor,
on Saturday.
In winning the event, Doig
posted three birdies and chipped
in from the edge of the green for
one of thein. I•Ietoured the
course in 36-35.. Chris Dawson of
Chatham event out in 38, but fal-
tered on the back nine finishing
with 73.
On Wednesday Ken Doig is
playing at Kincardine, where he
was winner last year.
Seeding the green will be done
the last week in August at the
Doig golf course in Tuckersmith,
Mr. Doig stated this week.
Six greens are now ready for
seeding and the remaining three
are being, prepared.
Dry weather earlier in tine sea-
son had caused some delay. itis
not expected the new golf course
will be ready for use next spring.
Hotel Property
May Be Sold
Reports that the Dick House
on Main street had been sold to
British Columbia interests, were
not confirmed at the hotel on
Wednesday. Mrs. A. W. Dick was
out of town. Negotiations are
said to have been discussed
MRS. CALVIN HILLEN
Mrs. Calvin Hillen, of McKillop
township, died Sunday in Scott
Memorial hospital after an dilutes
of seven months. Mrs. Hillen was
in her 35th year and was former-
ly Margaret Davidson, daughter
of the late Mr. and Mrs, Thomas
Davidson of McKillop. She was
married on Jan. 7th, 1903, to Mr.
Millen, who died in December,
1959. Surviving are two sons,
Stanley, of McKillop, and Harvie
of Kingston; and two daughters,
Bessie, Mrs. Kenneth Cowan, of
Midland; and Edith, Mrs. Peter
Dunlop, Seaforth; also two broth-
ers and three sisters; Ed David-
son, Walton; Sam Davidson, et
Portage La Prairie, Man.; Bessie
Davidson, Walton; Maude, Mrs.
John Gorby, Emerson, Man„ Ma-
bel, Mrs, Harry Allen, Saskatoon,
Mrs. Hillen was a member of
Cavan Church, Winthrop, and a
life member of the W.M.S. The
funeral was held from the G. A.
Whitney funeral hone on Wed-
nesday afternoon, conducted by
Rev, W. H. Summered of Bright,
Ont. Burial was in Maitlandbank
cemetery.
The pallbearers were Leslie
Kerr, Roy Elliott, Sohn Boyd, Ed.
Godkin, Carl Lee/Mardt, L. Bolton
and the flower bearers: Bill
Boyd, Gilbert Smith, Roy Pat-
rick and Edward Girtch.
CARS DAMAGED
An estimated $150 damage was
done to a Buick oar driven by
Frank Cookson about 6.45 p.m.
Monday when in collision with a
'62 Chevrolet driven by Gerald
Flynn of Hansall. The two oars
struck as they wheeled off Main
street into Goninlock street.
Mr. Cookson was accompanied
by his wife and baby, James
Clarke was a passenger in the
Flynn car.

an Church Women met last Wed-
nesday evening with 20 in atten-
dance, Mrs, Orland Rohrer, Mrs.
C. Wr Leonitardt and Mrs, Dan
Betierman were in charge of De-
votions and Topic. They chose'
for their topic "Helping Youth
and Adults Know the Bible,"
Pastor Brill also spoke briefly on
this topic. Donations were grate-

Drainage matters occupted hle-
Killop township council at their
August meeting in the Oddfellows
hall on Tuesday afternoon.
The engineer's reports on the
Nolan and Cuthill drains were
read and provisionally, adopted.
Present for the Nolan drain were
Thos. Purcell, Gilbert Murray,
Thos. Moylan, Geo. Beuerinenn,
Laverne Hoegy, Alvin Beuermen.
For the Cuthill drain; Oscar
Cuthill, Wm. Church, Roy Dolnm-

A petition 00 Logan Twp. (by
owner Mrs. Catherine Ryan, lot
35, con. 5) to repair Higgerson
Municipal -drain, was accepted and
also petition of Dan O'Rdurke,

the Ryan Municipal drain were
accepted. Tbe engineer was au-
thorized to survey and report as
soon as .possible.
A motion was passed to provide
for lesser assessment re Rapien
and Bolton drains, due to credit
from provincial aid.
The clerk was authorized to
buy a filing cabinet.
Clarence Regele will be notified
to spray the willows in Reid drain
providing petition is received
from Ross Driscoll.
The road superintendent was
authorized to consult the Dept.
of Highways re cattle crossing
signs, also bridge load limit signs
and also re bylaw for buying land
for road at jog on blind line side

The road supt. was authorized
to call for tenders on the Pryce
culvert,
Council adjourned to meet on

Winthrop Wins
Final Game
In a game played in Winthrop
on August 1st Winthrop Wingers
downed Londesboro 31-30 in a
real slugging duel. Londesboro
gained 17 runs in the first halt
of the second inning only to have
the Winthrop girls come back to
tie the score in the last half of
the second inning. Margie Elliott
Paced the winners with three
homers, a double and a single and
Joan Pryce with a homer, a
double and four singles. Susan
Wightman led the losers attack.
Alexine Williamson,' -the winning
pitcher, came on in the last inn-
ing in relief of Buchanan, and
Lena Dougherty was the loser..
This ends the schedule of the
North Heron Ladies Softball. Lea-
gue with the standing as follows:
Clinton on top followed by Brus-
sels in second, Winthrop in 3rd
and Londesboro in 4th place.
Winthrop will now meet Clin-
ton in a hest 2.out of 8 semi-final
series with the first game to be
played in Clinton on Aug 10th
and the second game in Winthrop
on Tuesday, Aug. 14111, at 7 o'-
clock.
In the Junior division of HFA
league Winthrop defeated a
strong Walton team 1-0 in a game
played at Winthrop on Aug, 2nd.

Second highest priced animal
in the ninth Ontario Guernsey
Classic at Kingfield Farms, Ring,
Ontario, on Wednesday, August 1,
was Woodrow's Royal Rose, con-
signed by William J. Dale, Dale -
vista Farm, Clinton. She was pur-
chased by Henry Borden, Tan-
nery Hill Paris, Ring, Ont., for
$1,850.
The 34 head hold in the sale
averaged $884.12; 23 cows aver-
aged 9909.13 and 11 bred heifers

Game at Listowel
Seaforth Peewees played in the
baseball tournament at Listowel
on Saturday, In the first game
Seaforth beat Walkerton by a
wide margin, but were defeated
by Listowel 8-7 in the second
of the elimination series.

A double ring wedding cere-
mony took place in Cavan United
Church, Winthrop on Saturday,
August 4, at 3 p,m., when Mary
Louise, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Wesley Roe, r.r, 1 Blyth, became
the bride of Allan Roy Justason,
son of lir. and Mrs, Henry M.
Justason, 165 Cameron St. North,
Kitchener.. Rev. Arthur Higgin-
botham officiated. Baskets of
white gladiolus and mauve pom-
pon chrysanthemums, fern and
candelabra decorated the church.
The bride, given in marriage by
her father, wore a full length
organza gown over taffeta and
net, The fitted bodice was styled
on a long pointed waistline in
front. The sleeves were long
tapered and lily point. Scalloped
satin ribbon trim outlined the
scoop neckline and adorned the
bouffant skirt. I3er headpiece was
a band of braided net and pearls
attached to a finger tip bridal silk
illusion veil. She had- • a white
cascade of sweetheart roses, baby
carnation„ stephanotis and ivy
trails,
Mrs. William Orr of Milverton,
sister of the bride, was matron
of honor, wearing a mauve silk
organza over taffeta sheath with
a matching overskirt held in
back by a fabric rose, scoop neck-
line and a hat made of a fabric
rose and net. She wore white
gloves and mauve shoes. She had
mauve baby carnations and white
pompon chrysanthemums. Flower
girl was Miss Kathryn Justason,
niece of the groom. She wore a
mauve taffeta full skirted dress
'with pater pan collar and puffed
sleeves. Her mauve silk organza
overskirt was held in place by a
fabric rose. Organza and taffeta
roses adorned the head piece. She
carried a white basket of mauve
carnations and white pompon
chrysanthemums.
Best man was William R. Jus-
'taean, 110 Trafalgar, Kitchener,
brother of the bridegroom. Ush-
ers were George McCully of Kit-
chener and William R. B. Orr of
Milverton. The organist was
Marguerite Lyon, Londesboro and
the soloist was Mrs. George Mc -
Culla who sang Wedding Prayer
and 0 Perfect Love.
The wedding dinner was in the
church parlor. The bride's Moth-
er received wearing an ensemble
of stained glass window print
with sheath skirt and a brief
jacket, She wore black and white
accessories and a white sweet-
heart rose corsage, The groom's
mother wore a brown and white
sheath with grown silk cummer-
bund and bow trim topped by a
short jacket, She wore white
accessories and had a corsage of
gold roses. Waitresses were Miss
.lane McCool, Mrs. Everett La-
mont and Mrs. Robert Read.
Tho bride and groom left on a
trip to Western Canada and on
their return will reside in
Kitchener.

The Luther League held their
meeting, opening with a hymn,
followed by prayer by Elaine
Bennewies, Eleven members and
one visitor were present. The
