The Point System has been changed to -encourage better driv- ing habits and to correct dangerous drivers by strengthening the demerit point sae Ie. The changes are designed to save lives —including yours. NEW DEMERIT POINT, SCALE i Points: Violation: 7 Failing to remain at scene of accident 6 Careless driving 6 Racing 8 Exceeding speed limit by 30 m.p.h. or more 5 Failure of driver of bus to stop at railway crossing. 4 Exceeding speed limit by more than 19 m.p.h. and less than 30 m.p.h. 4 Failing to stop for school bus. 4 Following too closely. 3 Exceeding speed limit by more than 10 m.p.h. and less than .20 m.p.h. 3 Driving under, through or round a railway crossing. barrier., 3 Failing to obey the directions of a police constable. 3 Overcrowding driver's seat. 3 Improper passing. 3 Driving wrong way on one-way street: 3 Driving wrong way on a divided highway. 3 Failing to yield right-of-way. 3 Failing to obey stop sign, signal light or railway cross- ing signal, 3 Failing to report an accident. 2 Failing to lower headlamp beams, 2. Making U-turnswhere prohibited. 2 Ma king turns where prohibited. 2 Towing of persons on toboggans, bicycles, skis etc: 2 failing to obey signs. 2 Pedestrian crossover violations. 2 Failing toshare road. 2 Improper right and left turns, 2 Failing to give signals. 2 Unnecessary slow driving. 2 improper opening of vehicle door. Upon conviction, points are recorded against the driver for the offences listed in the Point System Scale. Demerit points re- main on a driver's record for a period of two years after the date of conviction. At 6 points The driver is informed of his record and urged to exercise greater care. At 9 points the driver is required to attend a personal inter- view to discuss his record and give reasons why his licence should not be suspended. At.15 points Accumulated within a 2 -year period—the driver's licence is suspended and retained in the Depart- ment for one month. At the conclusion of a period of suspension—the number of points on the driver's record is reduced to 7, until the driver has cleared his record, afurtheraccumulation of 15 points within a 2 -year period will result in suspension for six months. The official taunt was Made on Monday, Service vote result:: Cardiff 143, Douglas 19, Fisher 332, Heiccitig. w ay 18, The official count made only four small changes in the election night tabulation: In Brussels No, 1, 'Fisher's efticial vote was 82, instead of 86. In 4B, Clinton, Car- diff received 78 votes, not 83; in Goderieli twp No, 1, Douglas re- ceived 6 votes instead of 5; and m No, 3, McKillop, Douglas got 16 votes, not 14, There were 181 {'ejected ballots, Total votes, 22,532. Candidates votes: Cardiff (PC) 11,562; Douglas (SC) 466; Fisher (Lib.), 9,1.77; Hemingway (NDP), 1,146, music for the event and at 12 o'clock Mr. and Mrs. Ryan were called to the platform and an address was read by Mrs. Geo. Fox which made numerous eujoy- able laughs, The happy couple were presented with many beau- tiful ,pieces of silverware and a sliver tea Service set, smoking Island, chest of silver and a well filled purse of money. The general meeting of the TJCW met last Thursday evening, A temperance reading was given by Mrs. Lear. The afternoon unit recommended replenishing - the dishes and .silverware for the church kitchen, McKILLOP W.M.S. Mrs. Jas. Keyes acted as host- ess for the June meeting of the McKillop W.M.S. which was held last Thursday afternoon, June 21. There was a good attendance with 21 members .present. Our presldent, Mrs. Robert Mc. Milian, opened the meeting with a poem, then hymn 284 was sung followed by a short prayer. The minutes of the last meeting were read and the roll call was taken by the secretary. The treasurer gave her report and took up the collection. Miss Jean Scott offer- ed her home for the July meet- ing. The members are asked to bring their Ladies' Aid collection to the next meeting and give it to the secretary, Mrs, T. W. Mc, Millan, Hymn 389 was sung and scripture was taken by Mrs. J, T. Scott. Miss Jennie Hogg led in prayer. Study book was taken by Mrs, W. Drover on port work and immigration, Mrs, J. U.Bell gave es s talk on the Canadian people, especially about the ESkimos. The ladies' Mika both preyed very in- teresting.
