CIRCLE MEETS
The May meeting of the Friend-
ship Circle was held in the First
Church hall. Mrs. E. Rivers open-
ed with a prayer. Thankyou let-
ters from Miss Jean Scott and
Rev. Elder were read, also a let-
ter from the night nurse at Ar-
magh Hall. Turns were complet-
ed in regard to the nursery class,
with Mrs. J. Patterson, Mrs. K.
Willis, Mrs. C. Geddes and Mrs.
G. Chesney volunteering to take
turns as -teachers. Tentative plans
were discussed for the bazaar. It
was decided to have a separate
meeting in June. Mrs. K. Willis
opened the devotions with a
prayer. Scripture from Luke 2:
was read by Mrs. C. Geddes.
Mrs. W. Flood read the second
part of the study, the story of
Elizabeth. Mrs. G. Chesney clos-
ed with a reading and a prayer.
The clothing for Armagh Hall
and the Children's A,id,God'erich,
was then sorted and six large
boxes were packed. Lunch was
served by Mrs. D. Stewart and
Mrs. J. Patterson.
LADIES' GUILD
The May meeting of the Ladies'
Guild of St. Thomas' Anglican
Church was held in the Ladies'
Choir room with 11 members in
attendance. The President, Mrs.
C. Rowcliffe opened the meeting
with scripture reading from the
book of St.. John followed by ,the
prayer for the parish and the
Lord's Prayer. Mrs. G. Stockwell
read the roll call and minutes.
Mrs. E. Dinsmore gave the treas-
urer's report which showed a
profitable sum realized from the
rummage sale. Several attractive
articles for the variety booth
were shown and discussion fol-
lowed on new ideas and suggest-
ions for the other booths at the
November bazaar. Members are
asked to donate Gold Bond
stamps fpr a meat slicer for the
kitchen.
WINTHROP
Family Night will be held. at
Cavan Church on Friday evening
May 19th. West side ladies are to
bring cookies and tarts; east side
ladies will bring sandwiches.

Mrs. Miller stated . that 4-H
Homemaking Clubs had reached
an all-time high in membership
in 1960 in Ontario and in Huron
County. In Ontario there were
1500 clubs with 14,500 member
completion, over 2000 increase
Huron was up_159 members, the
second highest in Ontario and had
over 96 per cent completion
There are nine clubs in South
Huron with 370 girls taking the
project, "Cottons may be Smart'
"4-H' Club, work is developing
home skills", she said, and urged
the senior W. I's to continue
their support.
Mrs. Schenk of Dashwood re
porting on the president's confer
ence held in Guelph, stated that
420 had attended, and as the de
mand was greater than could be
accommodated, it would be held
again next year.
Mrs. G. Hislop reported that
there are 1456 W. I. branches in
Ontario, with membership stand-
ing close to 40,000. She stated
that the project, "Pennies for
Friendship" has May 1962 as its
deadline. To date $3600 has been
received toward the Adelaide
Hoodless Fund, not all branches
having as yet' donated.

W. I„ and gifts of appreciation
were presented to Mrs. MacLean
and Mrs. McKenzie, retiring dist-
rict president and secretary, re-
spectively.

The Constance United Church
Sunday School participated in the
Christian Family Week Service
of Worship on Sunday. Mr. Wil-
bur Jewitt, the Superintendent,
led the service which theme was
"Stewardship in the Family", Mr.
Donald Buchanan read the scrip-
ture lessons, Master Ross Jewitt
and Paul Buchanan took up the
offering. Joyce Brown was pianist
for the service. Mr. Wm. Jewitt
capably gave the address, and
took for his topic, "Taking ad-
vantage of what we have as good
Stewards". We talk today of Sup-
ply and Demand and speaking of
Mother her value as the greatest
Steward is valuable and in short
supply as we have only one and
we are never too old to appreci-
ate Mother. Mr. Jewitt read sev-
eral poems by Edgar Guest, on
Mother and concluded with the
poem, "0 God Forgive me when
I Whine, the World is Mine".

The pupils of Brodhagen School
participated in the Monkton Mu-
sic Festival. Mr. E. Harley of
Mitchell is the music supervisor
and Mr. Don Wolfe the teacher.
