The Huron County Junior Farm- er and Junior Institute 6th Annu- al Drama Festival was held at the Seaforth District High School Au- ditorium on Friday evening, Mar. 4th. The winning play "The Pink Dress" was •presented by the North Huron Junior Farmers and Jun- ior Institute and directed by Mrs, R. W. Kennedy, Brussels. The "Best Astor Award" was won by James Bowman, 6. Brussels and the "Best Actress Award" by Miss Ruth Proctor, 5, Brussels. Both of these young people are members of the North Huron Club. The South Huron Junior Farm- ers and Junior Institute were the competitors and presented "The Storm" directed by Mrs. J. Smith. The adjudicator, Mr. Don Pullen, English teacher at Seaforth High School complimented all actors and actresses for playing a fine performance. - BRUCEFIELD The W. A. held their March meeting on Tuesday afternoon with 29 attending. The meeting opened with singing hymn 346 with Margaret McQueen at the piano. MTs. L. pyre read the scrip- ture from Corinthians. Mrs. John Broadfoot, in the absence .of Mrs. Richardson, took as her topic, 'Living Dpistles". IIymn 157 was sung, Mrs. Broadfoot led in pray- er. The president, Mrs. W. Broad - foot then took the chair with all rising and repeating the creed. Ma's. D. Triebner gave the secre- tary's report. The roll call "a par- able from the Bible". Mrs. Taylor gave the treasurer's report and the offering was received. Thank - you cards were read from Mr. and Mrs. L. Wilson, Mrs. W. H. Pep- per, Mrs. B. Walters, Mrs. Geo. Armstrong, Mr. A. Swan, and R. Cooper and fancily. NIrs. Wilson reported for the remodelling of the manse. Mrs. Jno. Broadfoot for the church committee and stat- ed that the tables had been com- pleted. She also reported for the visiting committee for February, Tho ladies for visiting in March are Mrs. Ross Scott and Mrs. H. Taylor. The devotional for April will be taken by Miss E. Bowey and Mrs. Geo. Clifton, the roll call An Baster Verse, Group 4 had charge of the lunch and program. Mrs. Douglas gave a humorous reading, After a con- test was conducted by Mrs. H. Taylor the afternoon closed with a very dainty lunch served by Group 4. Group 1 will have charge of the April meeting. The Brucefield firemen answer- ed a call .on Thursday morning to Varna where Mrs. Alfred Ings residence was completely destroy- ed by fire. Mrs, A. McQueen suffered a weak spell on Wednesday and was removed to Seaforth Memorial Hospital. Mr. and Mrs, Bert Moray of London spent a few days with Mrs. Stackhouse and Mr. and Mrs• Mac Wilson, and attended the fun- eral of Mr. McKay's aunt, Mrs. R. MacKay Mrs. Elsie Forret, of London, spent a few days last week at the home of Mrs. A. McQueen. Mrs, H. Berry spent a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Griffith, Stratford. FORTY YEARS AGO From The Seaforth News March 1920 The new parliament buildings at Ottawa were opened. William Gillespie was appoint- ed truant officer for the public school board. Lorne Thomas Roe and Anna Jane Nicholson, both of Walton were married. Thomas Smith has taken a po- sition in the Dominion Bank. Ben Johnstone has been ap- pointed caretaker of the GRATA Club rooms. M. D. D,innin is moving to the farm in Tuckersmith purchased from the estate of E. Letherland. Mrs. Letherland and family have moved to Auburn. Peter Keir has sold his resi- dence on Centre street to John McIntosh.. J.,9„ Williams has pur- chased the cottage on North Main street at present occupied by M. G. Ruttle. Joseph Nagle held a successful sale Of cattle at Dublin. William Dietz and Lawrence Moffat have been drawing logs from the Logan ,farm in Stanley of Sir Adam Beck of London, They are piling them at the Tay- lor farm to be taken later to Lon- don by motor truck. Mrs. John Balfour of Regina is vieiting former Kippen friends. The Balfours conducted a store at Kippers for a number of years. R. Robinson has sold his farm on the 13th of efeleillop to David Hall from Saskatchewan. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO From The Seaforth News March 1935 Mr. and Mrs. George Stewart celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Council decided not to sell the stable at the mill property be- cause it is the official dog pound. A horseshoe, deeply overgrown in an elm log, ruined a saw at the Goderich. mill. The horseshoe must have been left in the crotch of the young elm by a pioneer about 80 years ago. H. S. Turner has moved to God- erich where he Inas been appoint- ed Collector of Customs. Councillor J. J. Broderick is in hoepital with a .fractured legorom falling on the ice on Goderich St. East. Gordon Rolph died in his 26th year. John 0. Thompson, one of Seaforth's pioneer citizens, and a skilled tailor, died at his home on John street, Mrs David Dewar returned to Toronto after visiting her parents Mr. and Mrs, George Wheatley, of Constance. Mr. and Mrs. David MacLean are vieiting in Massachusetts. A meeting was held at Seatertll' to explain the Farmers Creditors Act. Speakers were R. J. Scott, of I3elgrave, , Major Corbett, official Te00iver, and R. J'. McMillan. A novelty calf was born at the farm of M.
