MRS. ROBERT LAWSON
A• highly respected resident of
1Lullett Township passed away on
July 3rd in the person of Airs. Al -
vita Mary Johns Lawson, widow of
the late Robert Lawson, Mrs. Law-
son had been ill for the past eight
months following a hip fracture, Af-
ter a lengthy stay in the Clinton
hospital she was taken to the home
of her daughter, Mrs, (John David
son, Huron Road, where she remain-
ed until her death,
Mrs. Lawson was born hi Tucker -
smith Township in Sept. 1867, dang-
hter of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Johns,
She was married to Robert Lawson
in December 1888. They farmed in
Colborne twp. and then moved to
their farm in Hullett 42 years ago,
Mr. Lawson predeceased her in De-
cember, 1940. Aim. Lawson was a
member of Constance United Church
and a life member of the 'P(romen
Missionary Society.
The funeral was held from the
Ball and Hutch funeral home, Clin-
ton, on Saturday afternoon.with the
Rev. A. W. Gardiner of Egmondville
United Church, officiating. Burial
was in Clinton cemetery. Pallbear-
ers were 6 nephews, Howard and Ed-
win Johns, Wilfred Seeley, Harold
Lawson, George Leitch and Edgar
Lawson. Flowerbearers were Reg.
and Bob. Lawson, Andrew Davidson,
Stanley Johns, Ted Warren, of Lon-
don, and Norman Willis, of Kitch-
ener.
Surviving are 4 sons, Roy of Me-
Killop, Earl and Lorne of Hullett,
Les of Tuckersmith, 2 daughters
(Myrtle) Mrs. John E. Busby of
Chatham; (Jean) Mrs. John David-
son, of Huron Road, also 6 grand-
children and 1 great. granddaughter,
1 brother, Addison F. Johns, of
Newmarket, and 2 sisters, Mrs. Al-
bert Seeley, of Clinton, and Mrs, Al-
bert Allirr, of Goderich.
Among those from a distance who
attended the funeral were: Mrs.
Mrs. Harry Bong, Newmarket, Mr,
and Mrs. Robert Lawson, Stratford;
Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Lawson, Auburn,
Mr. and Mrs. Ted Warren and Lyn-
da Ann, London, Mr. and Mrs. Nor-

Johns, Mitchell, Mrs. Albert ABM,
Miss Dorothy Algin, and Mrs. Wni.
Hoy, all of Goderich, Mr. and Mrs,
Scott Davidson, Millbank, Mr. and
Mrs. Jack Busby and; Shirley, Chat-
ham.

James Allison Shepperd Dale, be-
loved husband of Ida May Stevens,
glassed peacefully into rest in Scott
Memorial Hospital, Seaforth, July 2
in his 71st year. He was born in Huls
lett township, the son of the late
George Dale and Martha Shepperd,
on the farm where his son Earnest
now lives. He was married in 1902
to Ida May Stevens and had farmed
all his life in Hullett. Surviving' are
his wife and four sons; Allison, of
London; Earnest, Elmer and Carman
all of Hullett; five daughters;
(Myrtle) Mrs. Joseph Read, (Jessie)
Mrs. George Cunningiham; (Ethel)
Mrs. Reg. Smith, all of Clinton;
(Martha) Mrs. Thomas Smith, of
• London; (Josephine) Mrs. John
Harding. One brother, Christopher,
of Tuckersmith; four sisters, Mrs.
James Barron, Seaforth; Mrs. E.
Chesney, Hensall; Mrs. Wm. Church-
ill, Goderich twp., and Mrs. Byron
McGill of Seaforth, Also twenty-two
grandchildren.
The funeral service was held at
the Ball and Hutch funeral home,
The Rev. H. Wilson officiated and
interment was made in Clinton Cem-
etery. Pallbearers were Malcolm Me-
iDermid, Robert Freeman, John Free-
man, Joseph Freeman, Noble Holland
and Theodore Dale. Flowerbearers
were eight grandsons: Leslie, Lloyd,
Lorne, Milton Dale; Robt. Read, Ir-
vine Dale, Ronald Cunningham and
Harold Stacey.

A very successful home baking
sale and strawberry tea under the
auspices of the Catholic Women's
League of St. Janes' Church was
held on Saturday on the lawn of the
Sisters of St. Joseph Convent, Mrs.
C. P. Sills was in charge of the
home baking and Mrs. J. M. McMil-
lan, the tea.

Mr, Julius Ducharme together
with his wife, son Edmund, and
daughter-in-law from Westlock, Al-
berta, are visiting at the home of
his :brother, Mr. Auguste Ducharme.
It is the first time the brothers met
in 47 years. Mr. Ducharme started
on a homestead, cleared the land and
now owns a 480 acre farm.

held at the Lions' Park, Seaforth, on
Saturday, July 5th with an attend-

Hillsgreen Congregation United With
Kippen
The congregation of Hillsgreen
United Church met at Kippen on.
Sunday for the first, after closing
their church. Most of the families
were present and Si, Andrew's Unit-
ed 'Churc'h welcomes them most
heartily, both in the church and in
the Sunday School. Rev. Maines of
Brucefield is relieving for the month
of July, services being held at 10 a.
m. Induction services for Rev, N.
McLeod, who is moving here from
Lennoxville, Quebec, will be held on
the evening of Aug. 1. Rev. Rogers
of Ilensall and Rev. Maines of
Brueefield will be in charge.

Sixteen members attended the re-
gular meeting of the Women's Aux-
iliary Canadian Legion 150 on Wed-
nesday evening July 2 with Presi-
dent Cameron in the chair. High..

welcome from the Auxiliary Bran-
ches in Exeter and Brussels, and a
special invitation from the Blyth
branch requesting the Seaforth
Branch attend a social evening in
Blyth, August 11. A thaukyou note
from Comrade Sallows was read, It
was decided to send a letter of
thanks to the Women's Auxiliary in
Goderich in appreciation of the
splendid time enjoyed by the -Sea-
forth Brancb Wednesday, June 25,
the occasion .being the 6th anniver-
sary of the Goclerich Auxiliary. Fol-

A reunion of the Coutts -MacDon-
ald fancily was held at the home of
Andrew Coutts, Walton, on Sunday,
July 6. A good attendance number-
ing over sixty were present to en-
joy the social gathering. Members
were present from Seaforth, Brus-
sels, Sarnia, Toronto, London, Ham-
ilton, Cr•anbrook , Milestone, Sask.
and Marengo, Sask. The oldest per-
son present was Mr. Richard Cardiff
of Milestone, Sask. The youngest
member was Allan Wilbae, Seaforth.
In the evening a delicious picnic
lunch was enjoyed by all, after which
Mr. and Mrs. Russell Coutts and
Stuart and Ray, Mr, and Mrs. Eric
Coutts and Margaret said their
many goodbyes before leaving for
their home in Marengo, Sask.

Mrs. Carl Nelson and son .Mi'. Ro-
bert Nelson have returned to their
home in Lemmon, South Dakota, af-
ter visiting' the former's sister Mrs.
George B. Dorr•ance of McKillop.
While here they visited .Airs. Dor-
rance's daughter in Toronto, Mrs.
Gordon E. Webster, and Mr. Web-
ster, and went to see Niagara Falls.
This was their first visit to Canada
and they were quite surprised to
see the industrial development of
the province, especially in the Tor-
onto area. On their way home the
visitors will call on relatives in Chi-
cago, Mason City, Iowa, and Aber-
deen, S. Dak.

97th year had the misfortune to fall

arm near the shoulder. His condition
is as good as can be looked for at
present.
