Mr. and Mrs .Ernest Adams cele-
brated their forty-third wedding an-
niversary at their home on Satur-
day afternoowwith their family pre-
sent, A very pleasant time was spent.
Mr. and Mrs. Jaek Dodds of Lon-
don were recent guests at the home
of Mr. and Wire. l:larvey Tayloran
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Lawson.
Mr. and Mrs. Ellwood Clarke were
in Strathroy on Monday visiting
Mrs. Janie Papineau.
Wardell Dale returned on Satur-
day from the CNE 'where he was
judging horses, This week he is at-
tending Western Fair at London in
the same capacity.
Miss Grace Riley is attending
Stratford Normal School.

.Mrs. George Hoggart who under-
went a serious operation in Clinton
Hospital last Wednesday is doing as
well as can be expected.
Mr. and Mrs, Earl Lawson and
Mr. Reg. Lawson were guests of
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Lawson, Huron
Road West on Sunday.
Sineere sympathy is extended to
Mrs. Bert Hoggart and Mrs, Joseph
Flynn in the sudden passing of their
brother, the late Mr. Charles Riley,
Vancouver.
Mrs, Geo. Addison's friends are
sorry to hear she has been ill. They
wish her to be up and around soon,
Lorne Dubs of the Royal Cana-
dian Navy has returned to Stade-
cone, Nova Scotia after spending
a month's leave with his parents.
Mr. and Mrs. Osborne Dubs of
Windsor, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Squire
of St. Thomas and Mrs. Myrtle Bish-
op of St, Thomas were visitors on
Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Gen,
Dubs and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Bab-
cock.
WALTON
The September meeting of the
Walton C.G.I.T, was held in the
basement of the church on Saturday,
Sept. 4th. The meeting was opened
by the call to worship and this was
followed by the singing of hymn
285. Mary Dennis then led in pray-
er after which hymn 144 was sung.
Mrs, Kirkby then gave a very inter-
esting topic on "The Church we can-
not see". The minutes of the meet-
ing were read by Miss Clarke, adop-
ted by Ruth Anne Ennis and second-
ed by Faye Love. The roll call was
answered by 12 members and this
was followed by all repeating the
Purpose. We decided that each mem-
ber get a middle assoon as possible.
A special meeting is to be held on
Sept. 18th in the basement of the
ehureh to .snake final plans for the
Rally to be held on Sept. 25th, this
was followed by prayor after which
hymn 248 was sting. The offertory
Has taken and the meeting closed
by all repeating the benediction.
The September meeting •of the
Walton W. A. was heldon Thursday
afternoon in the 'basement of the
church, with sixteen members. pre-
sent. Mrs, Love presided, and open,
ed the meeting with hymn 375. Psalm
90, verse 17 was read, Menilbers were
urged to be doers of the Word and
not hearers only. The W, A. theme
song was sung and this was followed
by prayer. The minutes were read
and approved. The treasurer's report
showd a balance of $100.95 on hand,
Plans for the +C,G.LT, meeting were
discussed. The meeting closed with
hymn 888 followed by prayer.
BLAKE
Mr. and Mrs, Leon Jeffery were
visited by -their granddaughter and
family of Kitchener over the week
end.
Mr. and Mrs. Bert Baohert and
family and Mr, and Mrs, Chris.
Swartzentruber visited relatives near
New Hamburg on Sunday.
Mr. and Mr's. Sam Gingerich of
Zurich called on friends and relatives
in the vicinity on Saturday evening.
Mrs. Curtis iGingerich and baby
daughter returned from Clinton Hos-
pital last Thursday.
Miss Mildred Steckle is working at
the Gingerich home at present.
Mr. and Mr's. Roy McBride were
visited by their relatives, Mrs. Robt,
McBride. of Kippen, Mr. and Mrs.
Elmore McBride and family of Exet-
er, and Mr, Hugh McBride of Lon-
don, on Sunday. They also attended
the Goshen Line United Church An-
niversary.
Master Robert Manson and John
Geiger had their ponies at the Hen-
sel] Bean Festival on Labor Day.
Children there had a good pony ride
on then~.
Several are at the Fair in Lon-
don from this vicinity this week.

Mr, Gottlieb Mueller 'quietly oele-
brated his 93rd birthday on Sunday,'
Sept. 12. He is in good health and
he spends incl' of his time reading,

companied Mr, and Mrs, Harry Tait
on a trip to Point Pelee, Leaming-
ton, Windsor and Port Huron re-
cently.
Mr. Robert Wolfe, who recently
returned from Korea, visited his un-
cle and aunt, Mr, and Mrs. Lavern
Wolfe.
Miss Gwen Rock was one of the
nurses graduating from Kitehener-
Waterloo Hospital on Saturday.

sister Mrs. C. Hawley in London,
prior to leaving for her home in Cal-

with our new teacher, Miss Bartza

CROP REPORT
Because of the cool dry weather
fruit growers report early ripening
of the main apple crop. The peach
harvest is almost completed with ex-
cellent yields of good quality fruit
reported.
Forty-three young people from the
County will be attending an Agricul-
tural College or school this fall.
Twenty-five of these will be enter-
ing the first year of these courses,
Twenty-eight will be taking courses
at the O.A.C., and MacDonald Insti-
tute, Guelph, and fourteen will be
attending the Western Ontario Ag-
ricultural School at +Ridgetown.

The September meeting of ,the
Tuekorsmith Ladies' 'Club was held
at the home of Mrs, .Alice Lawson
with 11 members and eight visitors
present. The meeting was . opened
with the opening ode, followedo
the Lord's Prayer. It was decided to
have the annual auction sale in Clin-
ton in 'October. Mrs. Frank Walters
gave a very interesting reading of
the many useful ways of using .nat-
ural nail polish. Mrs, Eldon O'Brien
gave a humorous reading. The meet-
ing came to a close with singing "0
Canada",' followed by the home-
maker's prayer. A lovely lunch was

Mr. Russell Moore spent the past
week holidaying' with relatives at
Bancroft,
Mr. Wm. Foster was taken to St
Joseph's Hospital, London, last week
where he underwent an operation.

A quiet Autumn wedding was sol-
emnized on Saturday at 1:30
Carmel Presbyterian Manse, Hensell,
when June Ida, youngest daughter of
Mr, and Mrs, Ivan Webber, Exeter,
became the bride of Charles Kenneth
'Campbell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl
Campbell, Exeter, The bride was be-
comingly gowned in a -navy nylon
street -length dress with navy and
white accessories, Her corsage was
of red roses. Miss Kathleen Webber
was her sister's only attendant,
,dressed in an aqua and black figured
street -length $dress with pink and
black accessories. Her corsage was
of pink roses. Mr. Glen Campbell
was groomsman for his 'brother. For
the wedding trip to points east, the
bride donned a blue -gray suit with
navy and white accessories. On their
return Mr. and Mrs. Campbell will
reside in Exeter.
Miss Marilyn Erb has accepted
employment at Bert's Snack Bar and
commenced her duties this week.
The September meeting of the
Ladies' Aid of Carmel Presbyterian
Church was held in the schoolroom
of the church on Monday evening
with the President, Mrs. W. R. Bell
presiding. There were forty members
in attendance. Mrs. A. W. Kerslake
read the scripture lesson and Mrs.
Roy Bell favoured with a reading.
Arrangements were .made 'to hold
the annual bazaar on Saturday, Nov.
27th. A social hour followed after
which refreshments were served.
Wayne Edward, four-month old
son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Corbett
was taken to South Huron Hospital.
Exeter, for treatment owing to ill-
ness.
Miss Betty Miekle, who has com-
pleted her course in nursing at Vic-
toria Hospital, London, spent the
past two weeks with her parents,

VARNA
Five persons were injured when a
car and truck collided head-on Sat-
urday night 'at the crest of a hill on
the Bayfield -Varna road. •
Taken to Clinton Hospital were:
Donald McGregor, 21, R.R. 5, Clin-
ton, driver of the car; Bruce Mar-
shall, Clinton, driver of the truck,
who suffered head and chest injuries
and was later transferred to Victoria
Hospital, London; Mr. and Yrs. Mur-
ray Lovett, ,Clinton, and Joyce Dale,
Londesboro, who suffered cuts and
abrasions and were later released.
