DUBLIN
Dublin's oldest resident Alexander
Darling, died at his home on the
Huron Highway, Friday, May 14. Mr.
Darling had been in comparatively
good health until last Sunday when
he suffered a stroke. He was born
in Stratford; a son of the late James
Darling and his wife, the late Gather:
ine McKinnon Darling. He moved to
.St. 'Golumban as a child, later mov-
ing to Dublin, where he spent most
of his life. He was well known as
an athlete, serving as captain of the
Dublin Stars football team which
was unseored on for ten years un-
der his leadership and was also
captain of the Dublin baseball team.
He had an active interest in all
other sports all his life. He worked
as a building mover, thresher and
hay baler in Dublin. His wife Cath-
erine died in December 1943, Sur -

home, Mitchell, until Monday morn-
ing at 10 a.m. when it was taken to
S t, Mary's Anglican Church, Dublin,
where the funeral service was held
at 2:30 p.m. Rev. J. H. James of Sea -
forth officiated and interment took
place at Knox Presbyterian Ceme-
tery, Mitchell

Phail, Laurence Coe, Marmora; La-
verne Diehl, Monkton; Alex Litt,
Wilton Grove; James Bache Eg-
mondville; Douglas Bache, Dublin.

Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Ballantyne of
Detroit spent the weekend with their
aunt Mrs. Graham and visited with
their aunt Miss Katie Scott, who is
a patient in South Huron Hospital,
Exeter.
Miss Marylin Erb has accepted a
position at Rudy's Produce and com-
menced her duties there this week.
ZURICH 4-H CALF CLUB
The meeting of the Zurich 4-11
Calf Club was held at the farm of
Elgin McKinley, 4 miles north of
Zurich, on May 12th at 8:30 p.m.
The meeting was called to order by
the vice-president, Edgar Willert.
The minutes of the last meeting -Were
read by secretary, Mary Geiger,
their adoption was moved by Mari-
lyn Erb and seconded by Harold
Hendrick. Sixteen members answered
the roll call. The 4-H pledge was re-
peated in unison.
The meeting was then turned over
to Mr. McKinley who introduced two
men from the Master Feeds Experi-
mental Farm (Leitchcroft) which has
800 acres and is 25 miles north of
Toronto. Mr. Clare Paul •of Toronto
showed pictures on an imaginary
togs of the farm and Mr. Paul Couse,
also of Toronto was commentator,
Mr. Carl Oestricher thanked Mr. Paul
and Mr, Couse. It was moved by
Jimmy Love, seconded by Beverley
Dick that they adjourn. Mr. and
Mrs. McKinley provided ice cream
and cookies which were enjoyed by
all. Mr. McKinley was thanked for
the use of his hatchery and for the
lunch by Edgar Willert. A very en-
joyable evening was enjoyed by all
club members and all visitors.
CRANBROOK GARDEN CLUB
The first meeting of our club was
held at the home of Anne Steffler
on Wednesday evening, May 5 with
9 members present. Our meeting was
opened with the election of officers
as follows: President, Karen Machan,
Sec.-Treas., Marion Shiest, Press Re-
porter, Yvonne McTaggart, Pianist,
Rose Campbell. The roll call was an-
swered by "Why I planned to grow a
garden". Mrs. 'Corlett and Anne
Steffler led a discussion on "Where,
