ed himself at the farm home of Tho-
mas Snowden, seeking food and shel-
ter. The Snowden home is located on
the lake shore, two miles south of
Darfield Palmer, said by examining
physicians to be of unsound mind and
known as a former inmate of an in-.
stitutfon, told of spending three days
and three nights on 1Lalce Huron in a
rowboat, in a naked condition. He
says he threw his clothes and the
oars away after patting out in the
rowboat from near Point Edward last
Friday, but there is no, way .of check-
ing, this angle of his story or how
he made the 50 mile water trip along
the shore line to the point of disem-
barkation. IIe showed few effects of
his ordeal when he appeared before
Magistrate Mak-ins in police court on
Tuesday, charged with vagrancy,
When Palmer presented himself at
the Snowless farm he was taken in
clothed and fed, and the police sent
for, County Constable !Gundry re-
sponding. He was brought to the
county jail and was released after his
court appearance, when relatives
came to take hint home. To jail at-
tendants 'Palmer told a coheren,
story. He told them he left a mote in
a cottage saying he intended to do
away with himself by drowning. Af-
ter putting out into the lake he dis-
robed, threw- his clothes and oars
overboard and waited for something
to happen, expecting the boat to tip -
set, .but it failed to de so. A north-
east breeze kept the 'boat close to the
shore 'as it drifted and failing to meet
his expected 'fate he crawled under
the hood covering Of the bow which
afforded partial covering.
