Dublin Man Is
Noted Hog. Feeder
Roland Kleinfeldt of Dublin
made himself a reputation as a
hog.feeder, some years sago, be-
cause of the high proposition of
Oracle "A." hogs In thze litters he
fed up to market weight, says
Stafford Johnston in the iStra+t
ford Beacon -Herald,
Over a period of a year, .once,
he :marketed more than 500
hogs, and was given an "A" rat-
ing on 82 per cent of them, when
the iiarcasses passed before the
•critical eye of the government
grader. The Ontario average of
Grade "A's" has usually been
around 36 percent.
Roland Kleinfeldt has had
several years of poor health,
which have tut down his 'activity
nearly to zero, --but poor health
hasn't spoiled this judgment on
the natter of how to xii:oose and
raise a bacon hog that will score
at the top for quality. The big
hog barn on :the south side of
the highway at Dublin, wherethe Kleinfeldi livestock is housed
and fed, is still being kept in
use, twi'bh Mired help doing the
work. Roland himself has spent
a good pest of the last five years
on his back, under doctor's ord-
ers. He doesn't 'canny pails of
feed, or clean out pig -pens, but
it's still his discerning eye that
judges the hog, and his exper-
ience that dictates the day the
flog is. exactly ready to go to
anlarket. He seldom lets a hog
go overtime in the feeding pro-
gram, or put on the extra pound
of fat that reduces the .grade, -
and ,the Kleinfeldt record for
"A's" stays ,above average.

FAMILY HERALD
AND WEEKLY STAR
Investigating the courses +ef
the currents of the• sea is not a
usual pursuit for a rural maga-
zine. The Family .Herald and
Weekly Star was surprised to
learn, last year, that it had been
unwittingly doing that very
thing. It had done it by 'travell-
ing about, at least in part, in a
bottle.
In the course of l'eac'hing its
390,000 subscribers, the (Family
Herald travels by every means
from dog team to airliner, but
a 11ew type of transportation was
added to the list when a letter
came to the editorial office last
December, enclosing three yel-
lowed pages of the Family Her-
ald, They had turned up in a
bottle on the seashore alt Upper
West Hogland in the (Shetland
Islands. These islands lie about
one hundred miles north of (Scot-
land. The bottle contained no in-
dication whatever of who had
put the pages in it, or where it
had been set afloat.
