A surprise party for Mr. and
Mrs. Martin Diegel, .McKillop
Township, was !held on Saturday
evening in Hinz's hall on the
occasion of 'their 125th wedding
anniversary. Progressive euchre
was played and dancing enjoyed
with music by Nelson Howe and
girls of Cromarty. Mr. Harry
Byers, Kitchener, was the caller.
Mr. and Mrs. Diegel were pre-
sented with a chest of silver and
individual gifts, and Mrs. Joe
Smith read an appropriate ad-
dress. Luneh was served inciud-

family of three daughters, Mrs.

United Church met on Thursday

Mrs, E. Kyle opened the meeting
and 'hymn 577 was sung. The
'worship was given by Mrs. E1 -
don Jarrett. Mrs. Kyle gave the
visitors report in the absence of

Gregor and Mrs. E. (Chesney

favored with a solo, accompanied
at the piano by Mrs. Mcleod.
Mrs. Morley 'Cooper gave the
treasurer's report. The nominat-
ing Committee were appointed,
namely: Mrs. John .Sinclair, Mrs.
Robb. McGregor, and Mrs. Eldon
Jarrett. The program commit-
tee are Mrs. Russel IConsitt, Mrs.
Emerson Kyle and Mrs. V. Al-
derdice. The delegates' reports
of the Section meeting were giv-
en. Reporting the morning ses-
sion was Mrs. John Sinclair. The
afternoon Mss. John Anderson
gave the report for Mrs. Wil-
mer Jones, who was absent. The
hymn 637 was sung. Mrs. Em-
erson Anderson gave the study.
Mrs. Harry Hess of Zurich tow-
ered with a piano instrumental.
Mrs. Kyle extended thanks to
all who took pant in the meeting
and Mrs. Alderdice thanked the
hostess •and co hostess. The dos-
ing 'hymn was 494. Mrs. Keyes

by Circle 1.
ST. COLUMBAN
Requiem High Mass was sung'
in St. 'Columban 'Church on
Thursday for Owen 'Hart, whose
death occurred in Scott Memor-
ial Hospital on Monday, Oct. 10.
Rev. 3. ,MdCowell officiated, with
Rev. Dr. Ofoulkes, Dublin pre-
sent in the sanctuary. 'Pallbear-
ers were John 'McIver. Joseph
Kale, Albert Cronin, Joseph
Roach, Louis Rowland, Jos. No-
lan. !Burial was ie St. 'Columban
Cemetery. Friends and relatives
from Galt, London, Ingersoll,
Kitchener, Stratford, Seaforth
and Dublin attended the fun-
eral.
County Home Heads Resign
After 33 years service as mat-
ron of lHur'on 'County Home at
Clinton, Mrs, Martha Jacob has
submitted her resignation at a
special meeting of the 'Huron
;County Home 'Committee of
Huron County 'Council.
The committee, in accepting
the resignation, went on 'record
of appreciation of Mrs. Jacob's
years of service and her willing-
ness to carry on until her sus.

tion of E. J. Jacob (the matron's
son) as farm 'manager and Mrs.
F. J. Jacob, as assistant matron
were accepted. Their 'resigna-
tions were effective October 1,

portunity •to enter 'business and
his wife's were said to be be-
cause of health. They joined the
staff in 1941.
