MERRIAM DIES AT AGE 80 Mrs. 'Amelia Merriam, of 106 MGClary Avenue, London, wid- ow of ,Sylvanus 'Merriam, who died in 1947, .died Monday in St. Joseph's Hospital, She was 80 and had been in (failing health several years. Mrs. Merriam was born in London twp. and was an adher- ent of .the Anglican Church. (Surviving are six sons, Albert Merriam, at Woodville, near Lindsay; Melvin, of +Seaforth; Clarence, Earl and Cecil 'Mer- riam, all of London, and Arlen Merriam, in Victoria, B.C.; three daughters, Florence, Mrs. Arthur 'Stroh; Elsie, Mrs. Leo Flanagan, and Miss Irene Mer- riam, all of London; two broth- ers, 'Henry and Robert Dennis, 'both of 'St. Thomas; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Bouche and Mrs. Etta Swan, both of London; and 13 grandchildren. Service was held Wednesday at 3.30 p.m. in the Needham', Memorial Chapel, burial in Mount Pleasant Cemetery. The Rev. Dr. R. P. D. Hurford, of 'Christ Anglican Church officiat- ed. GROUP 2 W. A. After the business discussion, Mrs. Scott , gave a very interesting talk on the mot- to, "No one ever got eyestrain from looking on the Bright side of Life". A dainty lunch was served by Mrs. B. Mrs. Earl Mills presided 'for the worship ser- vice. The theme was "A Door of Understanding". Miss Norma Leeming gave a very interesting travelogue on her bus trip through the Canadian West, Pa- cific Coast and the 13 states of the Union. 'Mrs. Mills moved a vote of thanks to Norana .and all those who took part. The presi- dent, Teenie Dennis asked al] members to remember the Sec- tional meeting to be ',held in Walton the last weak in Sept. A hymn .was sung and Mrs. Earl Mills closed the meeting with the 'benediction. ;Mrs. Wm. Roe opened the W. A. meeting by repeating. in uni- son the general thanksgiving. HENSALL A large crowd watched sports events there on Labour Day held in conjunction with the Ontario Bean Festival. A tug-of-war was ,won :by Hay twp. composed of Alphonse Moss, Robert Moss, Alec Mous- seau, 'George Beer, Roy 'Srnale, Ed Hendrick andCaptain Bruce Koehler, Teams from Usborne, Tuoker•smith, Stanley and Hib- bert townships also entered. In doubles horseshoe pitching Ted Burrows, of Port Credit, with Walter Woodward, walked off with first place trophy. Woodward is Ontario singles champ from Lakeview. Second place went to George Edwards, Galt, and Elzin Tam- an, Galt; third to Fred ,Harburn, Hensal], twice Canadian singles champion, and his partner Jack Boa, also of Hensall. Court Kerr and Edward Da- vies, both of Benmiller•, ware' 4th with John Simons, Melbourne, and Wilson Dodge, Lucan, 5th. Miami, Florida on August the 1.21h, when Grace June, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John R. Muidoch, "Evergreenholme" Stanley, was united in marriage to William Dixon (Duncan orf Miaani, son of Dr. and MTs. William M. Dun- can of Dayton, Ohio. The donblering ceremony was performed by Rev. Dr. C. Roy Angell, in the Chapel of Cent- ral Baptist Church at 4 o'clock. Mrs. Mure11 of Miami, presided at the organ for traditional wed- ding music throughout the cere- mony. Tlhe floral decorations were large 'baskets of white lil- ies and white gladioli flanked by palms, The bride, wearing' a navy blue suit with matching accessories, and a corsage of white orohids, was given in marriage by Mr. William Hamil- ton Arthur Jr. of Miami. Mrs. Robert (Smith, gowned in an en- semble Of white and 'black with a corsage of red roses was mat- ron of honor. Mr. Williaan Klug Jr. was grooansman, and Mr. Robert Smith ushered. Following a small reception for intimate friends, the young couple left by plane for Nassau and later -will visit their respec- tive families in Ohio and Cana- da in late September. The bride, a former student at Clinton Collegiate, and at Parson's School of Interior De- sign and Decoration, in New York City, graduated £roan the Roosevelt Hospital School of Nursing, New York, in 19.52 and is at present on the surgical staff of Mercy Hospital in Mi- ami. The groom, a graduate of the University of Indiana, and a member of Theta 'Chi Fraternity. is on the staff of First National. Bank in Miami.
