Albert A. Spencer
Funeral services for Albert A.
Spencer, 81, who died at his
home here on Saturday, were
conducted on Monday at 2 p.m,
in the Bonthron funeral home
by Rev. R. A. Brook of Blue -
vale. Interment was made in
Exeter cemetery.
A. native of Beaverton he
came here in 1927 from Exeter
where he was foreman of the
planing mill. He operated the
Spencer planing mill here with
his son Walter until retiring 17
years ago. His' son still carries
on the business. Mr. Spencer
was a member of the Hensall
United Church, His wife died in
1947. Surviving' besides his son
Walter, are one daughter Mavis,
two grandchildren, Gwen and
Gregory Spencer, all of Hen-
sall, two brothers, 'Charles of
Beaverton, James of Winnipeg
and two sisters, Mrs. Nettie Dex-
ter, New York, and Dr. Maude
Middleton, Beaverton,
Mrs. ,Don Gooding and child-
ren of Parkhill were recent vis-
itors with the former's parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Munn,
Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Forrest
were recent visitors with Mr.
and Mrs. Edison Forrest and
family.

has purchased the barber busi-
ness of Mr. W. Gottschalk in
the 'Cardno block who intends
going to the west.
James Jarrett, of Kippen, who.
is attending 'Seaforth Collegiate,
has purchased a motorcycle and
makes the trip in and out each
day.
The people of (Cromarty vi-
cinity have raised money to
erect a new scale with covering
over it.
There will be a large acreage
of beans this year around Bruce -
field. 'Contract price is $1.90 a
bushel.
Quite .a number of people
gathered at the home of Mr. and
Mrs, Wm. Clark and presented
their daughter, Evelyn, with a
well-filled purse for her faithful
services as organist in the Meth-
odist (Church.
Rev.' Mr. Barker will be suc-
ceeded as minister of the Sea -
forth Methodist Church by Rev.
Geo. McKinley of Lucknow,
Dr. Atkinson and son Garnet
of Detroit visited his another
Mrs. M. C. Chesney, John St.
Garnet leaves this week for the
front.
Mr. Jas. Hart had a barn
raising at Winthrop last week.
Zack McSpadden and Robert
Beattie were captains.
Mr. Hugh Alexander has pur-
chased a McLaughlin car. This is
the only high-priced car owned
in McKillop,
Miss Annie Govenlock offici-
ated at the organ in the Presby-
terian Church last Sunday.
Mr. William Ballantyne was
honored by Britannia Lodge on
the fiftieth anniversary of his
initiation.

Lutheran Church at the Sunday

grounds has again started with
nine teams.
The Stewards of the Christian
Home met in the basement of
St. Peter's Lutheran Church,
The devotional part opened with
hymn "Shepherd of Tender
Youth". Prayer by Lorne Wolfe
and scripture lesson by Mrs.
Gordon Wurdell. Psalm 103 led
by Edward Scherbarth. Hymn
"I was shade a Christian". The
topic, "The kind of a parent we
need to be", was taken by
Mrs, Edward Scherbarth and
Mrs. Lorne Wolfe. Hymn "0
Happy Home" was sung follow-
ed by the Lord's Prayer. Films
were shown by Mr, Glen Brick-
man, "Small Fry" and "The Ter-
rible two's ansi the Trusting
Three's",
The business meeting followed
with President Ralph Hicks in
charge. The three one -act plays
are to 'be presented at Fullerton
and Bethesda 'Garden Parties
next week on the 14th 'and 17th
of June and at Grace Lutheran
Church, Mitchell the following
week. Lunch was served by Mr.
and Mrs. Edward Scherbarth,
Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Wolfe, Mr.
and Mrs. Gordon Wurdell.
The Ladies' Aid of St. Peter's
Lutheran Church held their
monthly meeting. The devotional
part of the program opened with
hymn "Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord
God Almighty". The scripture
lesson John 31-16 was read :by
Mrs. Reuben Buuck and she also
led in prayer. Psalm 8 was read
responsively with Mrs, Dalton
Hinz, leader. The topic "Based
on the Holy Trinity Season", by
Mrs. Lew Hicks. Pastor Fischer
then made a fine explanation
on the Holy Trinity. Hymn
'Lead us Heavenly Father, Lead
Us" was then sung and .the
Lord's Prayer. Mrs, Young was
in charge of the business. The
Aid to cater to a Golden Wed-
ding Anniversary on June 20th.
The Meeting closed with "Sa-
viour Breathe an Evening Bless-
ing" and the Doxology. Lunch
was then served by Mrs. Eliza-
beth Rock, Mrs. George Rock
Mrs. Philip Rock, Mrs. Harold
Rock.
HULLETT
The W.M.S. and W.A. of
Burns' United Church met at
the home of Mrs. Watson Reid
on May 26th for their May meet-
ing. Mrs. Roeopened the meet-
ing with Psalm 714 and the
scripture was read by Mrs. Geo.
Watt. Mrs. Leslie Reid led in
prayer, Mrs. Roe gave the study
book on India. Mrs. George Car-
ter took the'ibusiness part in the
absence of Mrs. White.
An invitation was accepted to
Kinburn on June 14th. Meeting
closed with a hymn. Mrs. John
Riley president of the W.A.
auctioned off the 'articles of
the auction basket bringing a
total of $8. The meeting closed
with a lovely lunch served by
group 3.
