Adams was suddenly stricken with a stroke last Tuesday and is in a serious condition. She was taken to •the home of her son, Harold Adams, where every care is being given her. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. linn•king and 'Miss Bina Kirk spent Sunday at the home of Mr, A. Kerslake near Exeter. There will be church services next Sunday, Aug. 17th, Rev. Mr. Penrose of Exeter will have charge. Firs. H. Lyon has returned having spent the past week at the home ,af her daughter. Mrs, H. 3Duriean, Constance. The Red [Cross held their ..August meeting in community hall, August 7th with thirty-six in attendance. Mrs. R. Fairservice presided. The treasur- er, Mrs. G. Cowan reported 4$740.07 on hand, Ablanket made from wool- en rags was on display. Anyone hav- ing woolen rags are asked to- 'bring them to next meeting. These will 'be sent away- to be made into blankets to the sent overseas. Proceeds from Chain teas up to time of meeting are $64,25. BLAKE Several of the ladies of the Blake congregation attended the joint meeting in Varna on Thursday last and enjoyed the programme to its fullest. Miss Marjorie Hoffman of Zurich sang a solo for the Blake ladies' part in the programme. The ladies are meeting on Wednesday evening in the Blake Church for their August -meeting. Mr. and Mrs. Walter McBride and family were in London recently aG tending the wedding of Mrs. Mc - Bride's sister and aleo acting as her twin sister's bridesmaid. Mr. and Mrs, T. Dinsmore and son and Mrs. Douglas and Miss Emma Dinsmore called on friends in Sea - forth one evening. Miss Marie Ducharme held a birth- day party on Saturday afternoon. Many attended the funeral of the late Mr, Menno Steckle on Wednes- day afternoon last, it being held from the Amish Church and burial taking place in the Amish cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Roy McBride spent a day with friends near Ripley. Mr. Wm. N. Finlay left this week to visit his daughter and son-in-law, bit'. and Mrs. G. H. Johnston and granddaughter, Sade Elizabeth, at Thornloe, New Ontario, Mrs. E. Stelck and Norma Hey sang a beautiful duet on Sunday at the Blake church, Miss- Jean Hey presiding at the organ. Mrs. Mus- tard took the devotional part after which Mrs. Wilson took the chair. Minutes were read and approved. The treasurer gave her report, and the offering was taken.
