"A generation ago, when the mo- tive power in telegraph offices was the old bluestone chemical battery. t(10 effects of the aurora were quite easily overcome by joining up two wires in one circuit, eliminating the 'ground' entirely. and obtaining one clear worsting wire at the cost of two, With the modern dynamo current this is no longer practically possible. Earth currents are, however, very seldom steady. They alternate rapidly in direction and vary vastly in force. At one moment through their opera- tion the current is entirely removed from a wire, and the next i1 returns with such strength as to make the a(1)uslmenl of the apparlus impos- sible, and even to cause fnetug of magnet wires and miniature rontia- grat.ions at key points and at switch- board, elicit as iustuneed above," Goderich Wedding Sequel to Forty Year 'Romance 3 rye I Int;q of Ir rr• than usual int ere,t e, a- ,ulentni e,l :1) 12,1(1 on \larch 34th at :\1exandr:, \'urine and }neral I1ospiaal, 1 oleri-h, when \lis- :\utanrla \fardel, 6.x, (lau:e11ter of the late \Ir, and \Ir..
