BOY SAVED FROM DROWNING
AFTER FALLING FROM RAFT
Billy Chambers, 9 -year-old .son
of Mr. and Mrs, Kenneth Cham-
bers, 4tli con. of Tuckeremith,
was rescued from drowning ou
Saturday afternoon by a Strat-
ford man known only as Mr.
Miller, who successfully revived
the boy by artificial respiration.
Billy and a companion, Grant
Tyndall had been playing on a
raft iu the Bayfield river near
the Sproat tile yard when they
saw a turtle on a log.. While try-
ing to reach for the turtle, Billy
felt in the water. Sexing he was
in trouble, Grant ran to where'
some men were fishing and call-
ed for help, Mr. Miller dived in
and nulled Billy from the water
unconscioue. In the meantime a
neighbor, Mrs. Orval Greer, tel-
e)honed the alarm to the Cham;
ber's hone, at the former Ches-
ney farm now owned by the Rose
family. Mr; Chambers and James
Rose ran across the fields and
when they arrived Billy was re-
gaining consciousness. He was.
wrapped in blankets and removed
to his home, where he is now
none the worse for the experi-
ence. Billy says he intends to
learn to swim.
The men said they had been
getting ready to leave and in a
•- few minutes there would have
been no help near. The river at
this point appears shallow, but
the dole where the accident hap-
pened was found to be nearly
seven feet -deep.
