W.M.S. Open Meeting
1%e W.M.S. 6f Constance'Un-
ited 'Church held a very success-
ful open meeting on Wednes-
day ternoon, June 19, 'Beauti-
ful flowers 'flanked the front of
the church. Mrs. 'Ross McGreg-
or presided over the ineeting
with guests front Egmondville,
Walton and Winthrop 'Societies.
Mesdames Earl Lawson and Geo.
Leitch welcomed the guests at
the door.
After the opening "hymn ac-
companied by Mrs. Wm. Jewitt
at the organ, scripture lesson
was read by Mrs, .Frank (Riley,
after which a minute silence
was held in honor of a departed
life anember CMrs. Colclougih)
-who was laid to rest on Monday
last, followed with prayer by
Mrs. W. L. Whyte.` Solos were
rendered by Egmondville and
Walton Societies, and a !poem on
"Quietness" by the Winthrop
Society and a duet by our own
society. Mesdames Lorne Law-
son and Verne Dale took up the
collection. Mrs. Wm.' Dale intro-
duced'Mrs.•Earl Mills of Bethel,.
as our guest speaker. Mrs. Mills
gave a very inspiring talk on
"Noise in every home" and
"Treasures of Silence", to com-
mune with God and how to use
our time for the spiritual rest.
Mrs. Borden Brown thanked
Mrs. Mills for her inspiring talk
and to the numbers an bhe pro-
gram es well as everyone who
helped to make the day a suc-
cess. A hymn ,closed the pro-
gram after which a social hour
was spent with lunch and a ba-
zaar under the auspices of the
W.A. Mrs. :MacDonald voiced a
thank you from all present, to
the Constance W.M.S. for their
afternoon. -

at the Decoration Memorial Ser-
vice at Harvey's Cemetery, Lo-
gan Township, on Sunday after-
noon, also at the garden party
at St. Patrick's Church, Dublin,
on Tuesday.

iHospital on Wednesday. He
had suffered from a hear con-
dition for bhe "past.three years.
and.had been in' bhe hospvtalfo'r'
the last ten ,days. He was Iboin
in Hulled Township, a son of
the late Samuel Appleby and
Annie Hunter Appleby. Follow-
ing his marriage to Mary Annie
IFainservice, of IHullebt, they
farmed in Mullett until 1934,
when they moved to •a farm in.
Morris twp.,but :ill -health caus-
ed Mr, Appleby to give up farm-
ing and in 1955 they took up
residence in Blyth.

The June meeting of the
W.M.S. of Nonbhside United
Church was :held on Tuesday
evening with •Brucefield and
Winthrop Auxiliaries as guests.
Mrs. Walden opened the meeting
with a poem "Just For Today".
Hymn 255 was sung. The Pres.
Mrs. Jas. Scott welcomed ' every-
one. "Hymn 249 was sung follow-
ed by prayer by Mrs. "Ross Sa-
vauge. +Mrs, Wm. Bali read bhe
scripture, Interesting items were
given by 'Mrs. H. Snell. MTs.
Mae Wilson of Brucefield gave
two readings, "Along the Way"
and "A Smile", which - was en-
joyed by all. Mrs. Neil Bell de-
lighted everyone with her solo,
"My .Task". Mrs. B. F. 'Christie
introduced the guest speaker,
Dr: Semple from Egmondville.
lie chose as his topic,' Rethinking
Missions, which was very infor-
mative and enjoyed by all. Mrs.
A. Sillery thanked the speaker.
Hymn 562 was sung, Dr. ,Sem.ple
closed the meeting -with prayer.
A delicious lunch was served by
the social committee. The visit-
ors expressed their appreciation
for the lovely evening.

A well -attended meeting :of
bhe Senior Auxiliary of (First
Presbyterian Ohurch was held
at the 'home of Mrs. Orland.
Johnston on Tuesday afternoon.
The pies. Mrs. B. 'Glenn IGan1p-
bell, opened the meeting with a
poem and prayer. After several
items of !business had been dis-
cussed, Miss 'Marion Gray, whose
.group was in charge of the
meeting, presided during the re-
mainder of the program. iVIiss
Jessie Fraser read the scripture •
and Mrs. "R, Geddes followed
with prayer. 'Mrs. J. F. "Scott,
Presbyterial President, then
gave an interesting report of
the council meeting which she
attended recently in Toronto.
The !topic on Malaya was taken
by Mrs. E. Butt and Mrs. H. R.
Scott. Mrs. Butt gave a descrip-
tion of bhe country, its people,
Its rule, etc., while Mrs. Scott
told of post war work .there. She
mentioned that more than half
the schools are in charge of
Christians, with the government
paying part of the upkeep, Bri-
tain's problem in Malaya today
is to steer the ship of state in
such a way that when the time
comes for them to get their in-
dependence -there will be unity
among the people there. At the
close of the meeting the hostess
served a delicious 'lunch when e
social half hour was spent,-----..„
'bringing to a close a profitable
and enjoyable meeting.
