large 'company gathered to do 'honor
to the 'bride-to-be. A short program
had been • prepared and Mrs. Peter
Lindsay' '•acted as 'chair 'lady. The fol-
lowing took part, a solo,. Miss Edith
Britton, reading, Mrs. E. Adams,
Stephenson ;Elgin Nott (violins),
Kelso Adams, Mervyn [Mott (guitars),
Mrs. 'J. (Ferguson (.piano), a reading,
Helen Britton. Doreen was then ask-
ed to, take a .chair decorated 'for the
purpose and an address read by Mrs.
Secord .McBrien, after which a kit-
chen shower was presented. Girl
,friends .helped Doreen and read ap-
propriate verses tied to the different
articles. Lunch was then served,
Mrs. Thomas Christian and daugh-
ter Florence of Killarney, Man., spent
a few days at the hones of Mr. and
Mrs, 'Wm. Clarke and Mr. and Mrs.
Wm. Britton and other relatives. Mrs.
Christian is a daughter of late Mr.
and Mrs. Charles Fowler who lived
where Mr. (John McCowan now lives.
Mrs. Teter .Ferguson of Forest is
spending a week with her sister Mrs.
William Britton and Mr. .Britton.
Mi,s Ruth Hugill, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Janes Hugill, graduated
from Stratford General 'Hospital on
Wednesday. Miss Hugill was a gold
medallist in general proficiency. Quite
a number attended the exercises dur-
ing the afternoon. Miss Donelda
Adapts and Miss Helen Britton with
their escorts were invited to attend
the graduation dance held at the
country club in the evening.

Mr. and Mrs. Peter Gardiner, Lon-
don, visited their cousin, Mrs. John
Craig, last week, also called on
friends in Blyth and vicinity. They
also visited friends at Clinton, Lond-
esborough and Brussels.
The yorng people's union had
charge of the service in the United
Church on Sunday evening, the young
people themselves taking part with
Y. P. unions of Westfield, Auburn,
and Londesboro present. President
Miss Margaret Hirons was leader.
:Miss Gladys Fawcett read the scrip-
ture lesson and offered prayer. The
guest preacher was Rev. H. J. Ma-
honey, B.A„B.D„ of Brussels who
gave an inspiring address. The choir
gave special music and the orchestra
was in attendance.
Mr. and Mrs. John Morel and Mr.
and Mrs. Cliff Wallace of Newark,
N.J.. were visitors with Mr. Frank
Bell and other relatives.
Mr, and Mrs. D. I. Colclough and
son Jack of Palmerston and Mr. and
Mrs. L, '0. Miller of 'Goderich were
guests of the former's mother, Mrs.
A. M. Colclough.
Several Blyth friends attended the
funeral of J. P. 'Kelly who passed
away suddenly last week, leaving to
mourn his loss his wife who was for-
merly Miss B. Egan and one son
Jack. The futteral was very largely
attended.

spent the week end visiting friends
in Detroit.

bers from West Huron at their meet-

of ,football games was played Friday
night at the Recreation Park, amid a
downpour of rain, between Brussels
and Seaforth, which resulted in a win
for the visitors by a score of 2 to
The crowd was not crowded by any
means. and a few good seats could
have tbeen secured any place on the
stand. If a few suggestions are per-
missible, we would like to say, that if
the playground were roped, it would
add materially to the 'comfort of the
players, and lessen the number of
"throw - ins" during the game. A
,whistle for the time keepers would be
money well spent, as it is rather dis-
couraging to have a goal counted,
that has no right to be.—The Inter-
mediate football match between Clin-
ton and Seaforth in the Recreation
Park on Tuesday night, was a fairly
good Baine, even if the score was
somewhat disappointing, L to .1 in
favor of the visitors, Referee J. B.
Mustard handled the game well and
it was entirely free from roughness.—
Our band is becoming very busy as
the season advances, and is deservedly
popular, as their .music is goad, and

and Vivian Straughn led in prayer.

Joan Sheppard and Margaret Wight -
man. Helen :Marsh favored with a pia-
no instrumental and Edna Archam-
bault and Margaret Crawford sang a
solo. Games were led by -Marjorie Ar-
thur. The next meeting will be on
Friday evening, June Utah, in- the
United Church.

week end at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Harry Sturdy.

er left on Friday tby train to visit with

when some 16 relatives and friends

completely taken by surprise the
genial 'host and hostess entertained
the guests to a very pleasant evening
following a 'bounteous repast supplied
by the .guests. Mrs. McJKnigh't was
formerly Minnie Steele, 'daughter of
the late Mr. and Mrs. '•Phillip Steele,
was .born in Lobo village and moved
with her ,parents to 'Ashfield 413 years
ago. 'Thirty-eight years ago she was
married to 'John McKnight. Follow -

field for 4 years, moving to Auburn
where they hive since resided' The
family are Mrs. Lloyd Ferguson of
