Mr, Wm. 'Pfaff spent a few days
this week in Seaforth at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Wm, Elder,
Mr. Albert Spencer has purchased
a lot on King St West from Mr. G. C.
Petty and intends 'building a house on
the property in the near future.
Misses Edith and Lilly McEwen,
who spent the Easter holidays here at
the borne of their brother, Mr. John
E. McEwen and his wife, have return-
ed to their home in Kitchener,
Mrs, John Tapp of •Hensall accom-
panied !by her son, Dr. 'James Tapp,
of Ottawa were recent guests of Mr.
Mex Grey and daughter of Seaforth.
Mr. Wesley 'Richardson has rented
the '54 -acre farm of his neigh'bor, Mr.
Charles 131aokwell of the Blind Line,
Hay township, fel- a term of years.
Mrs. Samuel Farmer of Stratford
was visiting here last week with her
sister, Mrs. Stapleton, and her father,
Mr. Wrn. Stone. While here she was

Mrs. A. Voth of Detroit is spending

that Mr. jan Smit, A former nell-
known resident of Hensall, had paeeed
away en Easter Stanchly at tht Simecie
hospital. Ile has residsd it Delhi for
several years. He was in his 315th year.
C'./ver twenty years ago he came to the
Hensall district in reside from Hol-
land accompanied by his mother and
tno sisters. They were all hard nark-
ing and highly rennected citizens. He
worked in the district a few years
and was also employed by 'Cook Bros.
for a number of years working in their
mill. A few years ago the faanily mov-
ed to Delhi. The funeral took place
loft Wednesday afternoon lent from St
Alban's Anglican Church, Delhi, in-
terment taking ,place in the Delhi ce-
metery. Me. Smit's many friends here
will be sorry to hear of his death.
A reception was 'held in the town
hall on Friday evening last in honor
of Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Johns, a re-
cent beide and groom. 'Over 200 were
qtresent and a very enjoyable evening
was •spent in ,darremg. Daring the ev-
ening Mr. and Mrs. Jones were pre-
sented with an address which was
read by Mr. Tulin Fortune end a beau-
tiful studio couch, Mr. 'Jones on 'be-
half of Mrs. Janes and himself thank-
ed their many friends for the beautiful
gift and their good wishes.
Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Berry of Toronto
spent a part of the Easter holidays
here visiting with Mr Berry's mother.

Mrs. J. W. Bonthron and son, Har-
old, visited in 'Kitchener on Sunday.
Mrs. Bonthron will visit there with
her mother, Mrs. Youngblutt, for a
few days.

President, George Brock, president.

school reopened on Monday morning
after the Easter vacation.
On Monday evening the Y.,P.S of
,the United Church entertained as their
ge.tests the Y.P.S. of flames St, Unit-
ed Church when a very fine program
was pat on by the Exeter Y.P. Ian
Vilshie toak ,charge af the opening ex-
ercises. After welcoming the Y.P.S. of
Exeter hymn 48 was sung and Mr.
Ortwein led in 'prayer. The Scriplure
lesson was read by Miss 'Esther Mar -
tines. Hymn 213 was sung. Mr. Charlie
'Con, president of the Exeter Y. P.

guitar selection by Helen Finkbeiner
and Miss Hannah Walters. Guitar se-
lection by Gordon Kleinfeldt. These
numbers were very much enjoyed. An
interesting feature of the evening's
program was humorous debate on the
subject, "Resolved that Exeter was
a 'better place to live in than Hensall."
Miss Irene Sweet and 'Elgin Luxton
Wok the an firmative side; Claude
Blowes and Walter Spencer took the
negative side. After mirth dismission
the judges decided in favor of the af-
firmative. Games and contests were
then enjoyed and ,followed by lunch.
A hearty vote of thanks was given by
Mr. Cox and replied to by Ian Filshie,
At Carmel Presbyterian Chnrch on
Sunday morning a Baptismal service
was held when little sons of Mr. and
Mrs. Earl Campbell, Mr. and Mrs.
Jahn Love and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Bell
were baptised by the pastor, Rev. 'W.
A. Young. There was also a quartette
sung by request in ,memory of the late
Mrs. 'Joseph Hudson, Sr., who passed
away just a year ago. The 'beautiful
hymn, 'Jesus Saviour, Pilot Me,"
which was a great favorite of Mrs,
Hudson was beautifully rendered ;by
Rev. W. A. Young, Roy McLaren,
Wm. A McLaren and 'James Ben-
gough.

Wilson Carlile ,of ,Hensall has been
visiting the .0ddiellows Lodges of the
district during this last couple of
weeks. Mr. Carlile was at 1Goderich
on Monday evening and at Exeter on
Tuesday evening.
Mr. Fred ivranns who for several
weeks has been suffering from gang-
rene in one of 'his toes and the toe
taken off about a week ago, was again
taken to a Seaforth hospital on Fri-
day night and on Saturday morning
the leg was taken off jnet 'below the
knee. Mr. Manns is in a serions condi-
tiop but hopes are still held out for
his recovery.
Miss Flora Smith, an aged and life-
long resident of Stanley township,
died at her late home, lot '6, con. S,
Stanley, on Monday afternoon. ,Mies
Smith, who has been in poor health
for several years, resided with thee
brother Mr. Alex Smith on the Smith
homesead farm in Stanley. The fune-
ral was held on Wednesday after-
noon, interment taking place in
Baird's cemetery.
At the 'United 'Church on Sunday
the Rev, 'Mr. Brooks of Blyth occup-
ied the pulpit 'both morning and even-
ing and .preachect two very interesting
sermons to large congregations. At
the evening service Mr. W. O. Good-
win and Mr. Harry Horton were the
soloists for the special parts in the
anthem, After the evening service a
special .congregational meeting was
held presided over by R.ev. Mr. Brein-
iser of Brucefield. It was amanimous-
ln decided m extend an invitatiqn to
Rev. Mr. Brooks of Blyth to become
the pastor of the Hensall 'United
Church on condition that the Blyth
people are willing to release MT.
Brooks, It is with deep regret that
we learn of the decision of Rev. Mr.
Sinclair to leave IIensall after !being
pastor here for about 15 years.

in evidence, amongst them a 'fine

and coffee was served by the ladies
and a most enjoyable time spent by

day morning Mr. Thos, Worden in

spent a number of years in London,
coming from there to the home of
his brothers about two months ago.
He leaves to mourn two :brothers,
John and Charles, both f Staffa. In-
terment took place in Stella cemetery.

Canada displaced th,e 'United States
n 119317 as the largest supplier of hams
to the British market. The Dominion
sold 3114,1606 cwts., and the United
States, 311%71415 twts. to .bnyers in
great Britain. Imports' of hanesefrcin
Empire countries increased tby 10 per
cent in 107, and represented 49 per
cent of the total imports of hams as
com,pared with 415 per cent in 11936.
Shipments from Canada were 1/3 per
cent higher, while those from Ireland
declined ,31 per cent. Canadian hams
are appreciated chiefly on account of
their high quality.
