ASHFIELD The funeral of Ila
May Saunders, sixteen -year-old
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George
Saunders,' of Ashfield, was held on
Monday afternoon from the residence
of her parents on the 9th concession.
The 'service was conducted by Rev.
Mi'. Patton, pastor of Blake's United
Church whore Miss Saunders attend-
ed church and Sunday School. Until
the family moved a year ago to the
farm, they now occupy, Ila Nay at-
tended Belfast school and attended
Zion ;school until this Spring. In
good health until.. stricken with pneii-
mania a little over a week ago, com-
plications set iii and she passed away
a few days later. Besides her par-
ents she is survived by five younger
brother's and sisters, Violet, Freda,
Gordon, Lloyd and Lottie. Interment•
took place in Greenhill cemetery.
HEN'SALL: A reception was held in
the town hall when about 300 friends
and neighbors of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd
McLean (formerly Miss Agnes
Wien), presented them with a lovely
kitchen Cabinet, with a fitting ad-
dress. Dancing was indulged

DUNGANNON:. A. meeting of the
ratepayers of Dungannon Public
School, U. S. S. No. 8, Ashfield, was
held in the schoolhouse on Monday
evening, with .about sixty in atten
dance. The proposition of making
some provision for the establishment
of a Grade C, Continuation. School
was again discussed and planst and
estimates for various types of build-
ings considered, among them being
the .addition of one room to the pre-
ent two -room building. Also a com-
plete new
om-pletenew school. It was felt that the

able, but in view of the fact that it
would be too late in the season now
to commence operations, the
whole question was left in abeyance
until early next year. E. C. Beacom,

Charles Elliott acted as chairman
of the meeting, and Mr's. R. David-

GODERICH: The death occurred
here on Friday night •of - Mrs. . Mary
Jane Stevens, widow of the late John
Stevens, in her 84th year. Mrs. Ste-
vens sufTered a stroke of paralysis
on Monday, and was only ill a few
days. She was born in the Township
of Colborne, the daughter of John
and Elizabeth Walters' Arlin, who
cause'. from Devonshire, , England.
Paler to coming to Goderich twenty
years ago, she and her husband
farmed in Colborne, and lived at Mc-
Gaw for eight years, when they were
burned out, Mr. Stevens diedfifteen
years ago. Surviving are one broth-
er, Joshua Arlin, a son, William Ste-
vens, of Colborne Township, and a
daughter, (Bertha), Mrs. Reuben
Grigg of Goderich township. There
are ten grandchildren and four great
grandchildren. The funeral which
was held on 'Sunday afternoon, was
largely attended. Rev. F. W. Grafi,
of Victoria Street United Church, of
which Mrs. Stevens was amiember, of-
ficiated. ` The pallbearers were six
grandsons, Carman Stevens, Bruce,
Gladstone, John, Edward and Chester
Grigg. The floral tributes were care
;led by Harold Stevens and Will
Grigg. Mrs. Stevens was laid to lest
in the Family plot in Colborne Ceme-
tery.
rGODERICII: There passed away
in Clinton on Saturday, Frances Jean
Curwen, widow of the late Herbert
Fisher who was a daughter, of the
late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Curwen of
Carlow and later of Goderich town-
ship. Mrs, Fisher had ,been ill for a
number of years' following a stroke
of paralysis. She was a member of
Carlow Presbyterian Church and .is
survived by one brother, Isaac Cur -
wen and three sisters, Misses Minnie
and Mabel, all 'of Goderich Township,
and Mrs. ;vers of Alberta. The fun-
eral took place' Monday afternoon,
from the residence of Mr. Isaac .Cur -
wen, Huron Road, Goderich township
to Colborne cemetery.

nical School, Rev. Reginald Apple -
yard of Huron College, London, Rev.

Their son, Ernest Appleyard, M.D.,
cabled his •greetings from .Salford
Royal Hospital, Manchester, Eng-
land where he is taking a post -grad-
uate course.
