INTO STORE Sneak thieves were busy in the village on Tuesday night. They broke into Mr, George Baechtler's store and helped themselves freely to tobacco, cereals, and canned goods. They apparently were fond of cheese, as they had cut off a large slice, but forgot it in their haste. As for canned goods, they were connoiseurs, choosing the hest of everything and all the delicacies. Mr. Sante Wideombe. Local manag- er of the store, found the lock had been pried open when he went to ouen the store' on Wednesday morn - tee. The thieves also brolce the lock off. E. A. Featherston's: gas pump and drained between 4 and 5 gallons from the tank. The police are inves- tigating. OBITUARIES. A. D. Sutherland, Seaforth The death occurred in Scott Mem- orial Hospital, Seaforth, on Thurs- day, September 2nd, of Andrew Dut- can Sutherland, Mayor"and life-long resident of Seaforth, as well as one of the most widely -known then in Western Ontario, Mr. Sutherland . had been in ;fail- ing health for some time; and for a few weeks had been confined to, the hospital. He was born in 'Seaforth 63 years' ago, and was a son of the late Alexander Sutherland. Following graduation from the Sea - forth Collegiate he jeined the staff of the Seaforth post office as cleric, and continued to be connected with that office as Clerk and Deputy Post- master until 1923, when he opened an insurance office.Whichhe'. conducted up until about T. Mayor for four years, also as a town coun- cillor, secretary of the Agricultural' Society, and in various other posi- tions. Besides his widow, there survive one son and one daughter, William Sutherland of Seaforth, and `Miss Anna Sutherland of Toronto; also two sisters, MTs. William Mnrdie of Lucknow and Miss Margaret Suther- land of London. The funeral was held on Saturday afternoon from First Presbyterian Church, Seaforth, and interment made in Maitland cemetery. GEORGE E. DAVIDSON George E. Davidson, native of God Crich Township, died at the home of his son, Captain Hugh Davidson, Toronto, on blenday, August 30th, Mr. Davidson, who was in his 76th year, had been a sufferer from arthritis for many years. After farming for a time in Goderich Township, he went to Victoria, B.C., where he conducted an extensive business as a florist for 25 years, retiring 15 years ago. His first wife, Margaret -Swaffield, pas- sed away in 1893, and he later mar- ried. Miss Jean Scott in. Victoria who, also, predeceased him. Mr. Davidson went to Toronto a year ago to live with his son. He was a Presbyterian and took an active interest in all branches of church work. Surviving are his son, Capt. Hugh Davidson of the "Simeolite," Toronto; four brothers, Hugh, Georgetown; Robert, Goderich Township; Dr. Da- vid, and Bert, Cartwright, Man., and a sister, Mrs. William Reid, Varna. The funeral took place Thursday afternoon from the home of Miss Jes- sie Swaffield, Goderich, at 2 o'clock. The service was conducted by Rev. A. E. Moorhouse, of Victoria street, and Union churches.. Interment took place ie. Maitland Cemetery. EBENEZER Anniversary services willbe held here on Sunday, September 12th, at 11 a.m. and , 7.30 p.m. Rev.
