The ladies of the Baptist congrega- tion met for their annual church cleaning' last Friday. • Weiner Roast A weiner roast was enjoyed at Earl Wightman's Grove when the members of Frank Raithby's Sunday School" class and friends had •a social time, Games were enjoyed the first' part of the evening, Members of the W.M,S. of Knox United Church were entertained at Blyth by the W.M. S. Miss Betty Ciai'g' sang a sato accompanied by her sister, Miss Ila Craig. Mrs, Wm. Anderson and Mrs. 'Gordon McClin- chey favored with a duet scamp anied by Miss Sadie Carter. , The Sunday School of Knox United Church held their annual picnic at Earl Wightman's Grove on Monday afternoons • Mrs. Samuel Johnston, Misses Luella Johnston and Laura Phillips visited with Mr. and Mrs. Harry Holmes and Miss Perldns of Gerrie on Friday. Mr. Leonard Yungblutt is in Till- sonburg where :he is relieving at .the C.P.R. station. Miss Phyllis Menning who has been visiting her grandmother, Mrs. Jas. Howitt, has returned to 'her home in Londesboro. W. M. S. The W.M.S. of Knox Presbyterian Church -net at the home of Mrs. J. C. Stoltz on Thursday afternoon with an attendance of 22. The president, Mr. Lawson was in charge and open- ed the , meeting• with prayer. The scripture was read responsively. Mrs. A. M. Boyle led in prayer. Miss Phyllis Manning of Londesboro fav- ored with a violin solo- accompanied by Miss Joesphine Weir. Readings were given by Miss Josephine Weir, Miss Minnie Wagner, Miss Norma Daer and Mrs, Fred Ross. Misses Ila' and Betty Craig favored with a duet "Teach me to Pray." Mrs, W. T. Robison read the third chapter of the Study Book. The roll call was answered by a verse of scripture. Mrs. James Woods closed the meet- iug with prayer. _Mrs. Herman Daer invited the ladies to her place for the August meeting. A dainty Iunch was .served by Mrs, John Cowan, Mrs. Fred Ross. and Mrs. J. C. Stoltz. The Tennis Club staged 22 tourna- ELECTRIC REFRIGERATOR ment on Wednesday afternoon. when some 20 players participated. The winners were Gilbert McIlveen of Bowmanville and Phyllis Manning of Londesboro. The younger ,children took part in. several games under the supervision of Mrs. Gordon Murray. A picnic lunch was served on the grounds when 75 were seated includ- ing the Tennis Club and their fam- ilies. Following this two interesting games were enjoyed, led' by Dr. B. The next meeting will be in charge of Mr. and. Mrs, Glen Raithby and Alvin Yungblut. Mr. Frank Raithby closed the meeting with prayer, Mr. Wm, Kernahan had the mis- fortune to •brealc his shoulder blade on Monday ,afternoon. He was up in the niow putting down some hay when he slipped and fell about ten feet. Dr. B, C. Weir was called, Mr.' Kernahan will be laid up some time. It is about a year ago a team of horses ran away with him and he suffered a broken leg. Mrs. John McKnight is nursing Mrs, Richard McWhinney of Nile who is quite ill at present.' Mr. and Mrs. Percy Gibbs of De- troit are visiting Mx, 'and Mrs. Har- vey McGee. The citizens of this community were shocked to hear of 'the sudden death of Mr. Dan. Geddes of Wing ham who passed away' July' 17th. Mr. and Mrs. Chas.. Straughan, George and Vivian Straughan spent the Weekend at Niagara Falls.. A family picnic was held on the lawn of Mr. and Mrs, Ezekial Phil- lips on Monday in honor of their friends who 'are visiting here from the West. Those present were Mr. and Mrs, T. S. Johnston, Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Philips, Mr. J. Walker, Mr. Jas. Medd, Mrs. C. A. Howson, Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Scott, Jim and Phyllis Scott, Miss. Laura Phillips and Mrs. Fred Ross. STANLEY Miss Marion Aikenhead of Calgary and Miss Lillian Aikenhead of. Lon- don visited their aunt, Mrs. Thomas B. Baird on Monday. Miss Marion intends to visit the. New York World's Fair, Mr. and Mrs. John Aikenhead of London called at the hone of Mr. Thomas Baird on Sunday. 3 Mr. H. Penhale and daughter Leeta of St. Thomas are visiting relatives on the Blue Water Highway and Bronson Line. Mr. and Mrs. T. M. Snowden mot- ored to Port Elgin on Sunday. Miss Phyllis Elliott of Mitchell spent the past week with her sister, Mrs. Bert Dunn, Jr, Mr. and MTs. Alfred Westlake and Mr. Harold Penhale motored to St. Thomas one day last week. The July meeting of the Stanley Club was held at Mrs. Shaddick's home with 22 members present, The Roll Call was answered by Sugges- tions for the Picnic." Readings were given by Mrs. Eddie Glen, Mi.'s. Mc- Gregor, and 1VIrs. Adam Stewart, and two contests by Mrs. Shaddick, The meeting closed by singing the Nation- al Anthem and then a delicious lunch was served. The August meeting is to be held at Mrs, Fenwick Stewart's home and the Roll Call to be answer- ed by "the name of the first school you attended." The Stanley Community Club held their annual picnic at Bayfield on Friday, July 14. As the weather was ideal everyone had a very enjoyable time. A. game of softball was en- joyed by the boys, and a program of sports were run off, the following being the winners of the various races, children under 5 years, all re- ceived prizes; boys or girls 6 years and under, Helen Stewart, Elizabeth Laramie; girls 7' to 10 years, Lillian Stewart, Betty Stewart; boys 7 to 10 years, Walter McEwen; girls 11 toi 14 years, Helen Shaddick; boys 11 to 14 years, Jack. Stewart, George Cant- elon; young ladies race, Nora Stew- art, Alice Glen; young mien's a'ace, Chester Neilans, Allan Baird; mar- ried ladies race, Mis. Wm. Caldwell, Mrs. W. Welsh; married men's race, Harvey Stewart, Wm. Sinclair; paper bag race, captains Wnr. Sinclair and Harvey Stewart, Wm.
