THE CLINTON :NEWS•RECORD, MAY 4, 1899 Lorne, son of Mr. Robert Welsh was a very sick boy for several days but is now about all right again. Fire broke out in a detached build- irg of the Onward Bicycle Company on Thursday last which called for the services of the brigade. The fire engine was not brought into play, the powerpowerat Fair's mill giving all the pressure necessary. Mr. J. T. Emerton, finds his busts crass so increased that he has added another chair, or rather he has sent off one of his old ones and bought two fine upholstered chairs of the most modern make. J. T. has a well equipped shop. Mr. Healy ,Stevens is , the oldest builder in town' having been engaged in the business for forty-five years and many of the best carpenters in the district have at one time or an- other been in his employ. Mr. Stev- ens built a number of the best resi- dences in teem, including W. Jack- son s, ackson's, Roveys, D, Cantelon'e, .the Rattenbury street parsonage and P. Cantelon's. He also built and oper- ated the first planing mill in Clinton and his present factory is his third, It was erected for a woollen mill and subsequently used as a tannery. The numerous friends of George , M. Kilty throughout this county will be pleased to hear that he was suc- cessful at his' recent examination and that he has been ordained and ap- pointed to the Delhi parish. in St. Marys. Mr. Arthur Cantelcu has rented his residence on. Mary street to Mr. P. B. Crews, and the one next the Catholic' church, to W. McKeown. A. Irwin, Miss Bessie Pointer, Miss Washington, Miss Beet - rice Greene, Mrs. S.' J. Alen, Mrs. Geo. Levis, Mrs. May, errs. .S.'Te'op- er,: Mrs. Rothwell, Mrs. W. Manning, Mrs. B. J. Gibbings and . Mrs. And- rews. The dedication of the Masonic hall took place• yesterday afternoon and was witnessed by the local members of the order and .ley visiting brethren from Toronto,- Stratford, Seaforth, Goderich, Hensall, Londesboro and Blyth. The ceremony was conducted by Grand Master, W. D. Macpherson, K.C., M.P.P., of Toronto. P.M.'s of Clinton Lodge taking part were Dr. Shaw, John Hunter, Oliver Johnston, W. J. Paisley, H. Gould, Dr. Ball, H. McBrien, J. Taylor and A. J. Hollo- way, Mr. L. 0. Paisley sold his hackney which he shipped to a Toronto Purch- aser last wee).. , It was a stylish driver with a good burst of speed so it was a handsome price whieh induced him to part with it. Mr, Lorne Mureh, who has ,been residing in Stratford for the past two or three years, has decided to go back to the land, having purch- ased the' Wm, Cole farm just north of town. It is his intention to go into chicken farming, small fruits, etc. Mr. W. H. Cole intends+ taking up residece in town and expects to complete arrangements for such a move shortly. Master Chlarlfe, 'start of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Andrews, while playing about the house on Monday after- noon fell against the stairs and broke hr's arm. Willis Church will celebrate its 55th anniversary next Sunday with :Rev. J. E, Reid, Toronto, as preach - George Nimens, son of Mr. George Nimens of town, had a very narrow escape on - Friday' last. He was em- ployed by Mr. William Riley, the framer, and it was while engaged in enlarging the barn of Mr. Jas. Manning of Hallett that the accident took place. One of the timbers fell and struck Mr. Nimene upon the side of the head, cutting the ear, injuring the left ear, bruising the face and cutting him severely. The doctors expect to have him around again shortly. I Mr. Harry Fitzsimons has taken a Position in Seaforth. ! Inspector Paisley was in Seaforth on Saturday acting es valuator for Mr. W.
