The fall wheat in this district is
looking good, . it being up, about 3
inches. Owing to so much wet weath-
er, a lot of the potatoes have taken
second growth. Many of the Spiriea
bushes around the district are out in
bloom again.

day. It is believed the cow ate wet
grass and as a result bloated.

was four times its natural size and

Injured itt Car Accident

A car driven by Mr. Oliver Turn-
bull' of 'Brussels failed toelalte the
urn at Mr. George Lawlor's corner
n the villagehere just before noon
on Saturday. The car skidded in the

loose gravel, and sag -zagged across
Chet road intol the iditgh hitting a
large maple tree. The only other oc-
cupant of the car was Mr. Oliver
Smith, also of Brussels. Mr. Smith
was severely injured about the face
and his, head which went through
the windshield with the force of the
impact was very badly cut, neces-
sitating' several stitches. Dr. B. C.
Weir rendered medical aid. The car,
a Ford coach, was badly damaged.
The radiator, windshield and steer-
ing -wheel were broken, and the bum-
per was almost broken in, two. The
driver was practically uninjured, but
both men suffered severe shock. The
accident was investigated by Traffic
Officer Norman Lever Jr. of Clinton.
The gentlemen -were on their way to
visit Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Wagner.
Miss Kathleen Patterson of S. S.
No. 9 Hullett and Miss Doris Wat-
son of, S. S. No. 3 Colborne are at
tending the Continuation School now.
The W.0145. of the Presbyterian
Church here motored to the home of
.Rev. and Mrs. A. M. Boyle on Thurs-
day afternoon where they had their
monthly meeting and were entertain-
ed by Mrs. Boyle and her daughter,
Norma. Mrs. Edgar Lawson presid-
ed at the meeting. The opening pray-
er was taken by Mrs. Howitt and
the Scripture was read restionsively.
Miss Eleanor Wilton gave the sec-
retary's report. It was decided to

Provincial Societyof the W. M. S.
some time in October. Final arrange-
ments were made for the Presbyter-
ial which is to be held in Auburn
on Tuesday. Mrs. W. T. Robinson
was appointed Student Secretary.

her daughter Miss Norma served a
dainty lunch and a social half hour
was enjoyed.

Rally Day Service will be held
next Sunday morning. Sunday school
will meet at 10.30 and the scholars
will occupy :the centre seats in the
auditorium. A special Children's
Choir will supply the music.

from Clinton Hospital on Saturday
where heunderwent an appendec-
tomy operation.

past three weeks at the home of Mr.

ed to their home in London on Sun-

Toronto General yospital where she
underwent a minor operation.
Miss Lucy Woods was taken to
the Toronto. General Hospital Mon-'
day where she is under observation.

residents of Bayfield returned to

The Club had an interesting meet-
ing at the home of Mrs. G. Graham.
In addition to the twenty-four mem-
bers, twenty-one visitors and seven-
teen children were present. After
the president had opened the meet-
ing and all members repeating the
Lord's Prayer roll call was respond-
ed to in the form. of a Question Box.
This was followed by the business
session and then an interesting pro-
gram was given. Those taking part
were Miss; Nola Taylor, who contrib-
uted two solos; piano solos by Mar-
garet McQueen; duet, Lois Moffatt
and Barbara Graham; piano solo,
Barbara Graham. Miss H. Isabel
Graham, Seaforth,•read a number of
poems of her own. composition. The
meeting closed in the .usual way by
singing the National Anthem and
the serving of lunch.
The October meeting will be held
at the home of Mrs. J. A. McEwen.
