\Yemen's Institute
The Women's Institute stet in the
Foresters Hall on Thursday after-
noon with the president, Mrs. Lawson
in charge. The meeting was opened
by singing the "Ode." An invitation
was accepted to attend a meeting of
the Londesboro Institute on October
3rd, Mrs, Jas. Woods, Mrs. Fred
Ross & Mrs, Ferguson were appoint-
ed to look after the transportation.
This being Grandomther's Day the
president extended a very hearty
welcome to all the grandmothers and
other guests. Mrs. George Dawson
then took the chair for the follow-
ing programme. Solo by Mrs. Harry
Wagner; reading, "The Pioneer
Women" by Mrs. Joseph Washing-
ton; a short play, "Two Old Maids
and a Tub" was presented by Mrs.
Jeremiah Taylor, Mrs. Win. Rober-
ton, Mrs. Fred Ross, Mrs. Herb
Mogridge and Miss Margaret King.
Mrs. Janes Howitt gave a reading;
Mrs. Herb. Mogridge and Mrs. Wm.
Roberton favored with a duet: Read-
ings were given by Mrs. Geo. Hamil-
ton and Mrs. Annie Wainer and Mrs.
Win. Anderson sang a solo. Two con-
tests were then conducted by Mrs.
Mogridge, prizes going to Mrs, Robt.
Rutledge, Mrs. J. C. Stoltz, Mrs. J.
Wagner and Mrs. James Webster.
The president then presented prizes
to the oldest grandmother, Mrs. Don-
ald Patterson who is 86 years old, to
the youngest grandmother, Mrs.
Robinson who is 42 years old, and
to the youngest great-granibnother,
Mrs. William Thompson. Mrs. John
Symington held the lucky door ticket.
Mrs. Lawson thanked all who had
helped in the program, also the pro-
gram convenor, Mrs. Mogridge, A
dainty lunch was served by the host-
esses, Mrs. Gordon Taylor,- Mrs. W.
T. Robison, Mrs. Erratt, Mrs. J.
Washington and Mrs. Geo. Bean,
There was an attendance of 9,5 with
32 grandmothers and four great-
grandmothers present.
Gormley Thompson who has been
employed at Windsor was a recent
visitor here. He left on Friday for
London where he will be stationed
for some time.
The treasury of the local Red Cross
Society here was the richer on Sat-
urday of $6.10 collected by Tommy
Sheppard, Jack Ladd, Royce Phillips

of Westfield held the lucky ticket.
The death occurred Monday morn-
ing of Mrs. Robert Medd at Goderich
General Hospital. Mrs. Medd had
been confined to the hospital for
about 2 months, but hacl been in poor
health for about 3 years. For the
past two years, she had peen afflict-
ed with blindness. The deceased wo-
men was formerly Martha Kirkpat-
rick, being the daughter of Alexander
Kirkpatrick and Agnes Young, She
was born 76 years ago in West Wa-
wanosh, and lived at Nile before her
marriage. She was married about 52
years ago to Robert Medd, who died
9 years ago last March. Mrs. Medd
was a member of St. Mark's Angli-
can church. She is survived by one
son and one daughter: Wm, Medd of
Goderich and Wt's. Thomas McNeil of
Auburn, also six grandchildren. The
funeral is being held on Wednesday
afternoon from the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Thomas McNeil, with interment

Baptist Church here Firday evening
at 8 o'clock. Special music from
Clinton.
The death occurred at his residenca
in West Wawanosh on Tuesday even-
ing of George Routledge in his 98th
year. The funeral service will be
held at his late residence on Friday
afternoon at 2 p.nt. Interennt will
be made in Maitland Cemetery, God-
erich.
