"Canada has aver 40 ships in its

Kingston Standard, "and yet a sub-
sidy of $1,300,000 must'be granted to
ten 'privately ;owned bottoms to;. con-
trol iatet. It doesn't look right on
the face of it." It does seem to' need
some explanation, doesn't it?
It would appear that' Dr. Sun -Yat
San, China's first president, is really
dead. Reports of his death have been
dead.
d on several v s I o ccasions, Dr.
Sun -Yat San had vision' of China
as a democracy and himself -as its
president, bit he, as niMs a man who
,came before hiin, lived too soon, His"
country was not ready for self-gov-
ernment. Probably, however, 'be -left''
some impression'; some footprints
which may serve .to guide future
statesmen in that great Empire.

An amendment to the Marriage
Act, the bill beingt.'brought in by Mr.
•E. R. Wigle, member for O. Huron, is
being made by the Provincial Gov-
rernment to -prevent hasty Mo riages
and ,the marriage of minors. In the
first;place an *lineation .for mar-
ridge license by one party nest be
accompanied by the birth cestificate,
• of the other party to the n1a,t'riage.
Then each license must' be dated and
no marriage can be soleninized : un-
til thi e clear days after this date.
' - Any clergyinan performing, - a mar-
riage under".'' authority of such a It-

not more than $100, This ''will do

Much has bee))' said and writ
ten about .the Ugliness of men's
clothes. • Personally we have ne-
:rt' joined in this chorus of dis-
paragement, if the clothes are well
made and well -kept, .and the man,in-
side 'ens carries thenf off reasAsa 'ly
well and is himself worth consi, loring,
we' have no particular quarrel with
his clothes. ' In fact, we've' always
thought Mien's: clothes a lot simpler
than women's and that it'is a lit ess=,
ler for a maxi to keep up' anappear=
ante of being well-dressed than it
for a woman. But, be. that as it may,
• many people who have, given thought
'.to the matter have from m tune to time
written sdathiiigly of the ugliness of
:men's clothes. Wall, , it seems that
men are to have beautiful, clothes in
inture: - In England there is quite e
- tun on these -new,, beautiful' gar-
ments for' Men, which" are alescribed
as "sweet". (Fancy!) The effect is
reached'by having colored threads Yon
tlmongh the 'plain greys and blues
mater-

t
and browns Which -lake tp thee
ial 'for men's suits, so it cannot be so
very startling, 'elm would think, But,
now that this thing: has started; it
of color -in-
t
may stet stop with a bit
troclueed into a tweed sport costume
or a- morning suit. Tweed, or men's
cloth of any sort, does not lend itself
to the malting up of beautiful, but
ratherof, utility garments. 31 men
are determined to wear beautiful gar-
ments they will no doubt soon' be
wearing silks and velvets, laces and
embroideries. Who knows but that' in
a year of so we shall be reading. some;
thing like this,- "Thee; bridegroom
looked charming in a, suit of dove
grey velvet,'with tritainings of rare
old lace, a sash 'of `canary silk and
grey "suede pumps and hose td, snatch
his :suit." Women will have to look
to their' laurels if men` take to Brak-
ing• themselves beautiful, espeeially,
if 'the fashionOf the "boyish figure"
remains,. Tot < he ° has,,the figure to
*tart with, although he may lose it
along toward middle life. It is,a well -
.known fact, too, that men dearlygove
to primp tip : Under the slimmest cit-'
case.,:_They will hang a gay coloured
=sash over their shoulders or tie a, gay
.apron about their•chubby waists and
march off in' a parade as proud ;0.,S
neacocks 'So; iS'they take to wearing
'beautiful 'clothes' all the time we, may
'expect to see them snaking a rather
good job of it.

OR how many years live people spoken of
"breaking in" a pair of shoes, i.e. suffering
tortures till the foot had, in time, shaped
the shoes to fit the foot? But now Arch Defenders
have banished all that and' your foot glides into
the shaped -to -nature insole of the shoe like a
glove to the hand. Note also how different and
shapely Is the last upon which Arch Defenders
are built compared with the old style. ,
In addition to the -conte concealed Spring Steel Support
and the special foot-forminsole, the lasts upon
which Arch Defenders are built, withs their.
cupped heel and foot -contour sole,' are so differ-
ent from the flat shapeless lasts of ordinary shoes.
