Mr. 'Emmerson Smith of our village.
He died on Wednesday of last week -
from heart trouble.' Deceased had
lived' for many years on the Goshen
line, one and a half miles north of
Zurich, where he carried on farming,
until a- few years ago, - when he re,
tired and went to live. in Zurich. He
leaves, a widow and grown-up family
of sans and daughters to mourn the
loss of a -kind and loving husband. and
parent. The funeral was held on Sat-
urday to Exeter cemetery.

On Friday evening last the Ladies'
Aid of St: Andrew's church' presented
the humorous play, "The Ladies' Aid
at Mohawk .Crossing. There were
some twenty-five :ladies in the play,
all in old time costume. The play
was full of wit and humour and it is
hard to say who the stars of the ev-
ening were, -;but 'mention might be
made -of "Mrs. Hugh McGregor, as
"Mrs. Green,!" who was hostess, also
Mrs. Jas. Mustard es "Mrs. Smith;
president of the Ladies' Aid," Miss.
JeanMcLeati as the "Boston Lady,"
Mrs. Wm. McDnald as "The Suffra-
gette." Mrs. Bowey.'as "the deaf
lady," Mrs. J. W. McLean as "the old
maid in search of a rich husband."
Others might be mentioned, as all did
extremely well. Early in the even-
ing the orchestra composed of Messrs.
McGregor and Hoggart, with, clar-
onets, and Thompson and Bell`viilh
violins, and ;Mrs. John MoGregm• at
thepiano,' gave several enjoyable
uui5rbets. The quartette was also well
received. The door receipts amount-
ed to $80.00: -
