CENTRE HURON'S REPRE-
SENTATIVE EXPRESSES i•IIM-''
SELF ON MANY SU1B,TECTS
E. R. Wigle, member for Centre
Huron, was one of the speakers on
the speech from the throne, and' he
considered it "the work of a real
Government."
He reviewed some of the agricul-
tural achievements of the ;province
during the year and made some inter-
esting suggestions. "Now that near-
ly every farmer has al raclio recenr-
iig-set,,' he -said, "1 hope•hhe day ia.
not long distant when tlio
Govern
-
nerswill establish a broadcasting
station,: whereby' the farmer will be
able to have thedaily ntarlet and
Weather reports. 'I don't _know wheth-
er to, go as Earl as some fainfers in
my constituent?' in asking that they
receive agricultural lectures, but I do
think.. seriously if the Government
would establish a' broadcasting sta-
tion to give the farmers the informa-
tion l; have mentioned it would be a
step in the right direction.
Ile also spoke of -the Hydro situa-
tion and the disadvantage at which
farmers are placed by the high price
from all other laxatives and reliefs
for
Defective Elimination
Constipation
Biliousness
The action of Nature's Remedy (NI
Tablets) is more natural and thor ,:

of this 'convenience; "During' the
Drury ,Negitne an investigation com-
mittee recommended that the Govern-
ment place a tax on the power devel-
oped at the several falls. I believe
that a good idea to create a fund
that may be . distributed to 'those
municipalities not fortunately situa-
ted. Four farmers to the mile are re-
quired before they can have hydro,
If there were some system of special
aid through such a fund, there would
be a number more take advantage et'
this great, enterprise. Ne reason why
the farmer, the man Ibehind the basic
industry, should be denied this con-
venience."
"There will no doubtbea re-yete
askeii this year of the $5,000,000° al-
loted for steam auxiliaries.:: Before it
is expended those responsible for hy-
dro policy should survey some of the
minor water falls in the province. I
believe they could easily harness 'a
number ofthese and I speak 'particu-
larly of the falls on the Maitland"
River, a few miles from Goderich, as
an; example. "' About 12 years ago the
hydro made a survey and found at
that time that' the cost of a dam was
too great to be advantageous. I be-
lieve now with"the progress made in
engineering and a modern method of
construction that the hydro conirnls-
siOn,would be well advised to make a
survey again of the Maitland Falls
andthat the people in that section
of the country could he 'served advan-
tageously by power generated there.",
Ile urged reforestation an d
thought the entrance to the O.A,C. at
Guelph, matrculation, was too' high.
"It will take as much to educate the
fanner to be a farmer as it takes to
be a doctor or a lawyer. The over-
head is too" high in our educational
system," he said, "and I think the
minister can i'ednee lit without af-
fecting its efficiency."
Mx; Wigle hoped that in bringing
Alberts. coal to Ontario if a water and
rail route were adopted Godorick
would not be overlooked,' ea there'
were two lines M railway and every
convenience for the Unloading of
boats.
Touching on the Temperance 'Act
Mr. Wigle salld. he had never been in
favor of doctors issuing prescriptions'
nor of druggists handling liquor. "I
believe," he said, "these two avenues
should be dispensed with: ^I think a
man'ntightbe his 'own medical advis-
er and prescribe for himself. At the
worst he would be contaminating only
one mind --his own. Why not let the
applicant for liquor present a requi-
sition signed by himself with it dec-
laration before a justice of the peace
that ho requires it for medicinal pun-
I?osei and let the fee be 25 cents, in-
stead of $1 or $2 a throw, and if they
really want liquor for medicinal pur-
poses let them get it at the lowest
Possible cost.
6We'have 27,000 permits Tor home:
brewing issued in Ontario and it
struck me that possibly by authoriz-
ation of
uthoriz-ation'of this 4.4 °beer it .night do
away ,with , a lot of these private
breweries, by which :a bad example is
shown in the: home. If it :did away
with ball of them the Government
would be justified."
