ing journey, some of their experiences

souri roads. They seem to need a
highway system over there:

We arrived here safe and,, sound in
wind and limb on Monday' evening,
July 21st, having had some most thril-
ling experiences. For the last 300
miles of -oar journey we drove through
indescribable mud, and forded sixteen
streams, one of which was almost deep
enough to stop' our engine. At one
spot a team of horses was kept busy
front dawn to dark,. hauling tourists
through inud which almost buried the.

'.worst in"the States, even in dry wea-
ther, but when it rains, as it has been
doing almost continuously, for weeks,
itis almost as much as your life is
worth to negotiate them,; Wa passed
through two niudholes where it'win-
ed 'every second that -the car would
upset. We Were fairly fortunate in
the matter of tire trouble, having had
but three punctures in the thousand
utiles journeyed. Front Detroit to
St. Louis, a distance of 600 miles, we
hail a beautiful paved road, and were
able to make good time. When up

tric storms for which -this country is
notorious. A. terrible wind storm,
swept through Kansas. City and -St,-
Louis about ten •days 'ago, doing a

Lincoln Highway, through Chicago, in
order to escape as farr as possible the
