Ah, that is best To which He calls us, be it toil or rest To labor for Him in life's busy stir, Or, Seek His feet -a silent ` wor- shippea . _Caroline Atwater`, Mason. Last week, in a special medical. article- on this page, the matter of the lengthening of life was discus- sed, the writer calling attention to the fact that it was not so much a matter of adding lengthof life as that of health while alive. Men and wo¢nen de not live so much lon- ger; but more of them reach mature years" and -live past the age of fifty. I have never bothered much about the lengthening of life. I think peo- ple, live long enough; that is those who are nbt cut down in their baby- hood err early youth by preventable diseases;;those, who grow,to manhood and womanhood, through middle age and reach the age of seventy, eighty or so, that is enough for any i±epeonblae person,,surely: It is, con- sidered a wonderful thing to reach the age of ninety or one hundred, Well, it is ,doubtful if. that is any wonderful boonto the pe'r'son attain- ing it. ' I have seen several happy, useful 'people' over eighty.: I have never seen a really' normal person over ninety,, Sometimes : they are cheerful and take some 'enjoyment out of their unique position, but at THE NEW IMPROVED PROs Greater Structiieal Strength Takes Any Decoration New Improved Edge 218 Fireproof .Wallboard For Sale By Geo. Their memories have failed and they cannot real m- ber today what happened yesterday. They live in the past, rather than in the :present or the. future. ;,Your life' is over if the present and the future holde nothing for you and you haveto hark back to : the past for your joys. Life then is not a boon, it is a burden. But the health anovements which make possible 'a better chance for healthy,, normal life for babes, and little; children. which tend tward the healthy developenient of young people and healthy lives for all, show advancement in civilization. It should be the aim of all to keep the°!3odily health up to the very best as long as one can do so. In that way, of course, lies thechance of long life, but also along this .way lies the chance of being useful and happy while ;we live. And that's the main thing. A , lying life in. which nothing much-bs accomplished is not to be compared with a comparatively` .short life; lived to the full. Everyone has been more or less interested-inthe regent visit of the Hon. .1. Ramsay MacDonald, Prinn'e Minster ,of Great Britian!, who re- ceived such 'a great reception here and in the United States, k was reading a little article about him and - his wife a, short time agowhich told of 3frs. MacDonald's devotion to her husband and the blank left in :his life by her death, which occurred qn 1911. Just before she dial she said to her husband: "Oh putro- mance into the lives of the children. Teach them to know the things of the spirit" I thought that was a fine thing for a mother of a family to urge upon her 'husband. The idea was ,that they were not to be allowed to just grow up as animals, putting all their energies into the achieve- ment of material gains. They were to be trained to appreciate and cul- tivate the finer things of the spirit. 3 wonder }f the young folk of the present day would not be better and happier„ better fitted to make the most of life, if they were trained more in the things of the spirit. It is a very material age. the dreamer gets short shrift usually, and young people are quick to grasp the trend of the times. Mothers are the ones, who can teach the children the finer things of the spirit. They should see that this training is given in the early, impressionable years of life, then it will sink in and become a pant of the character. A life that is spent grovelling after material things alone is only half lived. REBEKAH HOW TO REMAIN YOUNG Learn to relax. Don't fight with yourself. Keep shy of internal friction. Don't waste time in vengeful thoughts, It never gets you any- thing but trouble and futility. Don't feel that the world is set against you. And don't let yourself cultivate the notion you're a great little fel- low. For, as the paraphrasers of the beautitudes have it, "Blessed is he who expecteth nothing, for he shall not be disappointed." I well recall how, many years ago, niy dear old dad took me aside one day and told me: "Don't ever waste time, son, trying to get even with someone you fancy may have wrong- ed you. Because,' just as soon as You finish getting even with , hint there's bound to be someone else." 438 OUGHT TO HAVE A MEDAL, S ANYWAY In honor!ng famous people,• what about a statue in honor of the per- son whb invented pumpkin pie,— Os'hawa Times.
