A very intere:3Cing event took place
on Wednesday, June 19th, when the
Stephenson "family, to the number of
150, gathered at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Wm. R. Stephenson, of Parr
Line. There were, members present
from 14larlette, Mich., London, Wing -
ham, Clinton and Hensall and a large
number from Stanley the original
home of the Stephensons. It is twen-
ty years sihce a reunion was held and.
quite a number who met at that time
have since passed over the Great Di-
vide. °
Mr. and Mrs.- Ralph Stephenson,
Sr., carne to Stanley from near Port
Hope in the early '40's, when this
country was almost an unbroken for-
est. They, with their family of sev-
en sons and three daughters knew
well what the hardships and trials of
pioneer life were, • Mr. Stephenson
Passed away in 1878. Nearly all the
family .married and settled in this vi
einity. some later moving to;Michi-
gan and some to the West, but a
number still remain in Stanley and
are highly respected citizens of which

public for over forty years, having

servant and had the respect of friend'

We have been complaining the past
few weeks about lack of rain but we
might be worse, for instance, down
-in the Province of Quebec on. Sunday
afternoon an electric storm brought.
rain, no doubt, but also dealt death
-and disaster. Six lives were lost and
much property destroye8 in the vi-
cinity' of Montreal when the storm
• swept over. ',When we do get rain it
is usually a 'nice, quiet little rain

cessful in every way. On the arrival
of the company a very fine dinner
was served, following which a good
program of speeches and music
was given,- then games and contests
were held, with ' social intercourse
and the getting acquainted, which is
perhaps the most important feature
of such gatherings. Then the day fin-
ished up with another feast, for- that.
is what makes the ,Stephenson fam-
ily the physical force they are to -day:
After supper the company: dispers-
ed feeling that they had spent avery
pleasant and Iengto-be-remembered
day.

Maple Crest farm, Mullett townslllli,
Tuesday afternoon, June eighteenth,
when a number of friends were gath-
ered to celebrate the fiftieth anni-
versary of their marriage.
1VIrs. Vodden, who was Elizabeth
White before her marriage, went- as
a bride with her husband to their
present home and there they have re-
sided ever•since. Eight children were
born to them, two having died in in-
fancy. Five were present at the
wedding; ••Mrs. Scott, Londesboro,
William J. of Goderich township, Al-
bert at home, Robert of San Fran-
cisco, Calif., Ma's. Nitmno, Toronto.
Ernest of Sampsonton, Alta., was
unable to be present.
Tho family presented them with a
purse of gold and a number of use-
ful and lovely gifts were received
from other friends. The Women's
Missionary Society of Londesboro
and 'Burns Churches, of which Mrs.
Vodden has been a member for some
years, sent a beautiful bouquet of
sallow roses. We offer hearty con-
gratulations to Mr. and Mrs, Vodden
and hope they will be spared to cele-
brate their sixtieth anniversary.
