CADET INSPECTION
On Thursday afternoon,; May 30th,
many townfolk availed themselves of
the opportunity .of viewing the man-
oeuvers of the Collegiate Cadet
Corps and of hearing the remarks•of
Major Jeffries, District Cadet Off-
cial. Despite the excessively hot
weather, the boys, who duringthe
year have been under the instruction
of Mr. C. E. Carbin gave ,a fine dis-
play. The officers' were •William Ball,
Captain, and' It. 'Noble and E. Gray,
lieutenants. The bugle band led by
L. Cook and M. Rozell, was in atten-
dance and contributed much toward'
malting' the inspection a, success. •
Major Jeffries in his speech to the
corps commended them warmly " for
the creditable display, particularly
their marching. He stressed the im-
portance of physical training, clearly
showing. that a man physically fit,,is
naturally mentally alert. At the con-
elusioti of his remarks, prizes for the•
D.C.E.D. winter seder were present-
ed by the Major, Lloyd Stock win-
ning first place, with Morris Rozell
as a close second.
After slight refreshments the boys
paraded down town. Marched through
main street, and upto the school
again. '
It is noteworthy that the modern
tendency with Cadets, ' -is to abolish
things military, and many Corps have
aheady adopted the navy blue uni-
form and have omitted the use of
rifles. Accordingly, the Clinton
Corps have this year abandoned
their rifles and in a short time, it is
hoped they, will be supplied with the
new uniform.

amernserwroMeMecteMworommemuswerizmarnesmeranrossa
e fo lowin from a Moosejaw,
Sask., daily, refers to the passing .of
a former Clinton citizen:
'Following ta vo weeks' illness
:with heart disease, W. H. Beesley,
he, ll; known and very highly re-
aspeeted pioneer of the Belbeck dis-
trict and for several years an' ener-
getic and popular citizen of the city,
passed away at his residence on
Redland avenue, 'at 3 a.m. Monday,
Aetiive in the' Moose Jaw Bond -
cultural Association and also in the
Moose Jaw Agricultural Society
and in Zion Church', this city, the
deceased made a valuable contribu-
tion to the social and church life of
the community. .
Born in Ramsgate, England, .72'
years ago last November, the late
Mr. Beesley came to Canada with
his parents when 10 years of age.
They settled at Clinton, Ontario,
and it was there that the deceased
grew to manhood and received his
education. For ' number of years
he conducted a millinery and dry
goods business in Clinton and in
the year 1398 he decided to come
West' and join his brother, J. G.
Beesley. who bad previously settled
in the Moose Jaw district in 1383.
The year following his arrival
at 1\foose Ja•W .the deceased took up
a homestead 2,Ve miles, northwest of
the Belbeck Post Office. Here " on
the barren prairie he created ,one
of the finest farm homes and farin
gardens to be found in the province.
Not only did Mr. Beesley prove to
be an agtieulturalist of great ability,
but he was not- satisfied until he
had surorunded his farm home with
flowers and shrubs, which gave'
the appearance of a little piece, of
old. Ontario, transplantedon tp the
prairies. For years the farm :and
gardens have been one of the show
places of the district.
Princess street, and who now, resides
with his ton in Galt,. had the misfor-
'tune.'tp fall and in so'doing broke' his
hip. and is now confined to. the Galt
General Hospital. It seems a pity
that, annexe of his: age, eightemsevtn,
should have to go through the suffer-.
ing " attendant on such an accident,
and his friends here: deeply sympath-
ize with. hint His soft, Oswald, of,
Leiden and also:Mrs. W. Hannblyn
are in Galt with him.
LADY BOWLERS REORGANIZE
Mr. Beesley remained on the
farm for 22 years and then moved
into the city, tuening over the -
operation of •the farm to his one
son, Bert, who at present is resid-
ing and farming the old homestead.
Since 1920 Mr. Beesley had resided
in the city and in those eight years
he had' been most energetic in parks
board and horticultural association
activities. .:
During his residence on the farm,
Mr. Beesley was prominent in the
activities of Wesley Church, which
was. a few miles west of his farm.
In days of the formation of the
Saskatchewan Grain- Growers : As-
sociation, the deceased took a very'
active: part and continued his 'ac-
tivities' throughout the, many years
that- this "organization served the
farmers of the province. Ile also
took part in the formation of the
,Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, and
more recently had been very active
in 'the formation and bringing into
being of the egg and poultry, "pool.
Tho late ' Mr: Beesley was 'secretary
of the Belbeck ' Rural Telephone
Company since; its ":"inception and
took a very prominent part in the
organization of ' the Belbeck Farm_
ors 'Elevator Co. and was president
Of it for many years.

,
In a censustaken of the weed eon-
dition last year, it was found that
sow -thistle, wild carrot, couch ,grass
and ox -eye daisy were the mett
troublesome. These weeds'are pre-
valent throughout the entire county.
It would certainly be considered a
hardship if .a farnner were requested
to cut"a field of grain seriously in-
fested with these weeds before they
developed seed. H6'wevet', it. was
thought that" clops which are cut.
green. and used. for hay might give
greater returns than if . allowed to
ripen, in which case' the 'grain yield
is very often poor.
The most .encouraging observation
from the experience of last year is
the evident demand for information
on the nature and particularly on. the
control of weeds. All will agree that
this is a healthy sign. and should be
encouraged in. every ,,way possible.
Tho Weed Inspectors, therefore,
•should continue to study and for tint
purpose it was suggested that a copy
of "Farm Weeds of Canada" be sup-
plied, This book'' contains:illustra-
