WINGHAM, April 6. '- The Mait-
land rivertook its first'toll of life
here about. nen today when Jack
Bergman,. young son of M. and
Mfrs, W. F. Burgnian lost his life.,
Four lads, Jack 'Rhrgman,' Murray;
Rae, Harold Skelding and Arthur
Stone ranging in age from 10 to
14 years were out in a 'heat on the
river' when it upset near the. Mc-
Kenzie bridge!. Rae and Skelding'
succeeded in swimming' ashore.
Burgmau and Stone - clung to the
`upturned boat and were carried down
the'. river towards the nmilI dam. Ropes

but lost his hold and -both were swept
over the dam. Stone than caught ori
