The subject of a lecture, in • the
University Extension series, given by
Prof. Sissons on Friday night last is.
one in which we should be more in-
terested, that is the pioneers who set-
tled this prorvince first, cleared the
• 'land and laid the foundation of the
prosperity which we enjoy today.'
• Of course we must look forward
•• 'we must plan for the future and make
. -the very most of*the opportunities of •
the present.. But we _might, with,
• profit, step -occaiionally to consider
• those who bytheir courage and in-
dustry made our present prosperity
• possible. • •
• Some of us have had the opportuii-
•ity., of knowing pertonally some of
these pioneers, or if not, their child-
ren, and have heard sone of the
stories of the early days, but the
•-children of the present day will know
little of how this country was set-
tled unless an effort is made to in-
form them. ...Prof. Sissons' 'lecture
was such an effort and it might be
follolwed up with some other inter-
esting early history. Have we, for
instanceeanyone in -Ifuron Connty
• who could tell us some interesting
• stories of the early days in this
county.?
