GODERICH TOWNSHIP
Mrs. Joy Snyder and blaster Elgin
returned on Monday from Toronto
where they spent the past week.
,The municipal election was held
pn Monday, bringing dui; a fair num-
ber of voters. Mr, Wilmot Macke
was returned as reeve for 1931, this
majority over his opponent, Mr. D.
Churchill, being 158. Mir. H. Corey
and Mr. J. Sowerby tied, for fourth
place at the ?township council
table, each polling 197 votes.- When
the vote; were eounted and it was,
seen that this was actually the case,
Mr. Sowerby, with true courtesy and.
sportsmanshipn asked the township
clerk, Mr, 'R. G. Plimpton, to give
Mr. Corey the casting vote. In the
old days of open voting it used to be
the custom .for the candidate to vote
for his 'opponent. ' M11'.. Sowerby's
generous act recalls this earlier cus-
tom of courtesy. Mtessrs. Corey, Jer-
vis, Johnston and Powell are the.
choice of the people for the council
for 1931. It Iooks like' a good coun-
cil. Below we give the vote . by
