On account of the condition of the roads there was not the usual good attendance of trustees and ratepay- ers. In the absence of Dr. G. L Christie, Mr. J. Buchanan welcomed the trustees and ratepayers to the. College. This was followed by an instructive address by Dr. Amoss of the Department of Education on auxiliary classes. He showed what can be done and the interest the Department of Health together with the Department of Education are taking in the welfare of the boys and girls who, through some defects, 'can- not talce advantage of the education offered' in tjlie pnblic'a'schools. Considerable discussion followed which proved -very instructive and profitable to those present. Mr. Fred Sloman of the C.N.R. school car, was in town Sunday and Mon- day, coming down to see his wife and little ones, who are spending some time in town. A little new daughter arrived Saturday morn., ing, which he was especially anx- ious to see. Mrs. Logan, who had been visiting with her sister, Miss Minnie Gil; christ, left yesterday for her home in Saginaw, Mich. She was accom- panied by Miss Gilchrist, who will spend some time with her and Miss Jane Gilchrist at Sagniaw, as is her yearly custom. BRUCEFIELD The Thankoffering was a most liberal one, amounting to over 887.00, But the auxiliary yet lacks 5144.00 of the allocation, which is 8500.00. As they always reached it in past years) the ladies are hoping and praying that it may yet be contributed. If the auxiliaries do not reach their allocation that means suffering for our missionarjes. Word has been received from India that some. of the Missionaries are now living on two meals a day and are willing to just live on one rather than give up thei1 work. Mrs. John- Walker of our village received word of a serious accident that befell Tier sister, Mrs. George McKay of Toronto, formerly Miss Joan McKay of Tuekersmith, who had the misfortune to fall off a table breaking a bone in her thigh and her collar bone, and also some ribs. We extend to her our sinsere sympathy and hope for a good resovery. Mr. 'Smith of Bluevale spent Sun- day with his daughter, Mrs. Hugh Berry. Mr. Stan. Reid of London spent Sunday at his home in the village. The annual Thankoffering meeting of the W.M.S. was held Wednesday evening, Nov. 16th, in the United Church. The congregation listened with much interest to the address de- livered by Miss Mitchell. 'She first spoke about the =wonderful work our missionaries are doing in the far East and what a marvelous change is noticed in the lives of the natives when they accept ,of Christ as their Saviour and Lord. She next spoke of her travels in the Peace River dis- trict, where is-trict,,where 'she spent part of last summer, and then' she. told of an ex- perience she - had in a sand storm where the sand drifts were over three feet deep in Southern Saskat= chewan. ' She mentioned. the .. great need there was of second hand clothing to be sent to the dried out areas where they have had no mop for the past four years, and all weremuch interested in a report of her ;:visit to Gypsumville.
