OF INTEREST TO YOU
AND ME
Well, 1932 ds nearly half spent.
*Six inonths from Saturday will be
;Christmas Day.
Manitoba farmers like Bracken as
: a hired man and have engaged him
for another teem.
ge
Tuesday was the longest day, 'or
vee it Wednesday, this being Leap
Year? , Anyway, if you spent either
or both toiling from daylight until
'.'dark you put in a good many (hours.
* *
"Getting married this June," pe-
tinently, or impertinently, inquires
"The Gedeeich Signal? The proper re-
•tort would seem to be, hew ' about
• yourself, brother?
In order that their voice may be
heard in no uncertain way the farm-
ers of Ontario, led by the U.F.O.,
who has arranged for special excur-
cion rates over the Cannella:. Nation-
al Railways, and for the interview,
will go to Orbtawa'on July 16th, just
'before 'the Empire Conference, to
state their views, their needs and
their wishes in eminectio'n with the
'coming conference. •
The following is quoted from a
'eircular sent out by the United Far-
•.eners of Ontario:
"There is muchtalk about the
Empire Economic . Conference
which is to convene at Ottawa
on July 21. However, being an
event of great international im-
portanee it is worthy of our best
thought and our most thorough
discussion. It is quite a good
thing to 'have talk and plenty of
it providing that we do not let it
stop at that. And it is going to
take more than talk --:mare than
' a flood of oratory with high
sounding phrases, more. than
lofty language and empty plati-
tudes—to make a success of this
conference."
"Our government, possibly the
cabinet alone, hvill lbe the ionly re-
presentatives Canada will have
sitting in at this conference,
Even the press we hear will be
excluded, On the members of
our dominion cabinet, therefore,
rests a great responsibility. They
must have facts; they must
have a definite constructive pel-
f icy; they crust have the interests
of all the people at heart and
they must also fully realize what
interests deserve first eonsidera-
tion from the standpoint of na-
tional welfare. Do they know
this, we wonder?"
The farmers are planning to tell
them and toward this end are asking
delee•ates to come from all sections
of the province to Ottawa. The
number attending will no doubt im-
press the Government, but the lead-
ers, who will sneak for all the Agri-
eulturalists of Ontan', will need to
be well informed ant to have a thee-
eug+h grasp moon the subiect In hand.
' That this delegation will represent
the meet important class in Canada
goes wihout saying. They -will have
a mighty responsibility. It will be-
' heave therm to realize this.
