LeBlanc V Poppy Day Sat., Nov. 11 This year; as in other years, the Canadian Legion, through its 1760 Branches and Auxiliaries in Canada is . calling to the people of, the Do- minion that they should observe more than ever in solemnremem- brance the symbolism which hasbe- come an integral` part of Remem- brance 'Day observances, and asks that every man, :woman and child wear a Poppy on'Saturday, Novem- ber llth, in memory of those who laid down 'their lives in the Great War and of those' men and women who have made the supreme sacrifice in the present conflict. This appeal is not made on behalf of the Legion or of its members, but on behalf of all ex -Service men who are in need. The collection. and ad- ministration of the Poppy Fisnd has been entru, ted ` to the Canadian Le- gion. This, however, does not mean that the. Poppy Fund is part of the n-tirfunds of the Legion. It is kept en- tirely separate ely'separate and', is not even treat ed as a part 'of the relief fund. It is rather considered tis a Trust Fund, which the Legion administers for the benefit of 'ally ex -Service men: In granting relief, members of the' Legion receive no ;'special preference but all ex -Service "men stand on an equal footing. Any man' who has served and who isiin need, has a claim on this fundi The' Poppies and Invest in Victory . Buy VICTORY` BONDS LOVE BIRDS FOR SALE 1, . These men are absolutely incapable of earning a living in any other way, and but for this industry, would be a charge on the public funds. If Poppy day did nothing. but keep these men self supporting and self-respecting, it would still be worthwhile. The organization of Poppy Day, the sales of wreaths and poppies, the handling of monies collected, the investigation and relief of ,,all ap, plicants are done by voluntary wor- kers. No roan or woman connected in any way with this receives a cent as wages, salary, bonus, commission or allowance for expenses. All mon- ies collected are placed in a special account' which is controlled by a Board of Trustees of this Branch. Every expenditure made isapproved and every account checked by the Board. Every applicant for relief is investigated carefully but sympa- thetically. Relief may take the form of food, clothing, fuel, rent .or medi- cal assistance. It is practically never, issued in cash. . Over a million citizens of Ontario worq a Poppy' in Remembrance last November. 5,000 Wreaths were pla- ced' in Churches and at Memorials, in honour of the. dead, Should any of our friendsdesire further information on any point in connection with Poppy Fund activi- ties, our Branch Secretary will. be glad to supply it. The ' Canadian Legion is grateful for the hearty 'support they have always received from the general public to make the lot of the distressed ex -Service men easier, and it AS bur hope that there will be no partial or permanent black out for them, Give and• Give' Freely! ` THURS., NOV. 9th. 194.
