Death of William Dodd
After an illness of three years,
William Dodd passed away on Wien -
day evening, Sept. 25th, in his eighty
third year. He was born in Goderich,
a son of Henry Dodd and Atm Mor-
gan. Forty.six years ago he mar-
ried Jennie Smylie and they. lived.
for •some *time at Nile where Mr.
odd operated a saw -mill. Later they
farmed at Stouffville and eighteen
years ago they retired to Auburn.
Mr: Dodd was a member of Knee
United Ohhureh. He is survived by his
wife, two sons, Hairy Dodd of Gode-
"rich and William of 'Auburn, one sis-
ter, Mrs. Lewis Taylor (Hattie) of
'Goderich also a grandson, William.
The funeral "Was held from. his
late residence 'on Thursday afternoon
and was conducted by Rev. H. Snell,
pastor of the United Church. The
pall bearers were Messrs. Wtiti,
Stewart, Alf. Rollinson, Ezekiel
Phillips, Geo. Beadle, Edgar Lawlot
and Jas. Roberton. Interment took
'place in Balls 'cemetery.

'Service on Sunday, October, rat. At
the meriting service the Rector Rev.
P. H. Streeter spoke on "Thaniks-
giving". Mrs. Gordon R. Taylor pee -

rendered ail anthem and Mrs. An-
drew Kirkeonnell rendered a solo;
• "The Old Rugged Ceres." At the
.evening +seiiviee Rev. W. H, Dunbar,
Rector of St. George's Church, Gode-
rich, was . the guest speaker. The
choir rendered an anthem and Miss
Amelia Mellwain sang a solo.
The church was beautifully dec-
orated by the liberal use of vegeta-
bles, fruits, flowers and plants, the
products of field and garden, em-
blematic of the bountiful good of
God in providing for our needs.

The regular monthly meeting of
the Ontario St. United Church Wo-
menis Association met on Wednes-
day, Ootobee 4. The president, Mrs.
Teen sehcil was iS the chair and Miss
Grant at the piano. The meeting
opened with a hymn and reading res-
ponsively, T1,e I Ams' of Christ. Mee.
Radford read the lesson from Psalm
103 and led ;in prayer. : The Secre-
tary's and Treasurer's Reports .were
adopted'.
After reading a communication'
from The Navy League, a motion
carried that ,,$24.00 be donated to the ,
filling of 6 ditty bags. Several mem-

Visits wend made to 31. The pro-
gram consisted of a reading by Mrs.

Some new furniture will be bought
for the parsonage. It was'also moved
that $15.00 he donated toward the
fund for overseas boxes, As very
little money was brought in for the
Bombed Victims Fund this was 'left
over for a month, We hope to have
many responses to this, which can be
given to any of the executive of.the
W. A. The 'meeting closed with a
Hymn, and Prayer by Mrs. Hawke.
There were 38 present. A Red Gross
quilt was donated and quilted during
the meeting. A social time was spent
and lunch ,served under the convenor -
ship of Mrs. Howard Trewartha and
Mrs. McKay.

Wesley -Willis W.A.
The W. A. of Wesley -Willis church
met in the Church hall on Thursday
afternoon ; October 5th. Mrs. M,
Nedigee was in the chair, Mrs,
,Charlesworth was pianist.
Duping the devotional •period, Mrs.
Hayden offered Prayer, and Mrs.
Vodden read the 19th Psalm.
The •secretary, Mrs. Jefferson and
the Treasurer;. Mrs. Fingland gave
their reports.
Letters of thanks were read from
those to whom floteers had been
sent.
The committee, composed of Mrs.
Nediger and Mrs. Jefferson, tuld of
the boxes of chocolate .bars sent as
Christmas gifts to the +boys over
Mrs. Pinning, for the work coin-
mittee repotted two lovely quilts
completed. Final arrangements were
made for the "Country Fair", of
October 14th.
Mies + Dell O'Neil contributed an
amusing reading entitled, "His Ocea-
nic Majesty's goldfish" -by . Austin
Strong.
A. hymn and the. Miepah benedic-
tion brought the meeting to a close,
after which afternoon •tea was ser-
ved by Mrs. Nelson's group..

Legion 'Auxiliary
The Legion Auxiliary held their
regular meeting in the Legion Hall.
Mrs. Norman Miller, president, was
in the chair. The meeting opened
with the singing of "0 Canada",
There were five new members recei-
ved, Mrs. Vanderburgh, Mrs. MolCay,
Mrs. Ward, Mrs. 11 MacDonald and
Mrs. Kennington. $10.00 was voted
to the Minesweepers Fund and $10.00
to the Hut Fund at London. The
meeting closed with the King. Lunch
was served and a social time enjoyed.
LONDESBORO
Friends and neighbors gathered
at the hone of Mr, and Mrs. Wm.
Govier on Saturday evening to honor
the newly-weds, Lieut. J, S. and Mrs,
Hann of Barrie,
The evening was spent in playing
cards and social chat. Later inthe
evening the young couple were
brought forward. An address was
read' by Mrs. Robert Peck and Fern
Youngblutt and Helen Radford, pre-
sented them with a lovely Walnut
oceasional table. Lieut. Hann expres-
sed thanks and appreciation on 'be-
half of Rhoda and himself.

We, your friends and neighbors of
the 10th concession of Huliett, have
gathered here to -night to spend a
social hour 'with •you and extend to
you our very best wishes for your
future happiness.
Although you have not been in
our midst for the past few years,
Rhoda, we remember when' you were,
and recall with fond memories those
years. Since then the most we have
seen of youhas been -a' cheery smile
and "hello" when you were rushing

bus. We hope that you and Spence
will still be able to spend many week
ends here amongst us.
