Gatenbj struck five, walked three and hit one, but was given wretched support, espec- ially in the eighth when Colts got five runs op. two safe lute and two walks, with three errors thrown in- to the pot. Clarence "Sari" Neila'.ss, hustling leftfielder of the Colts, and one of the "tough" batters of the Cthb, again shone at the plate with two mighty triples—one in the fifth scor- ing MacDonald, and the other to start Clinton's batting rally in the eighth,. A faster runner might have made the circuit in both instances, des the ball bounced into the trees in deep left centre. Draper's homer in the, fourth with no one aboard, featured. Boussey, Woodcock and White also hist safely for the locals. IiskIN 001 SHINE (By RSA) Clinton RCAF and Staffa tussled in :one of the closest and beat games of this young Huron -Perth season on the Air School diamond Tuesday evening. With the score tied 2-2, mnpire Doug Thorndike was forced to call the match on account of darkness at the end of the eighth. The game will be "no game" unless required to settle a play-off berth, in which case it will be replayed. Only a few days :previously, Staffa had licked the Airmen 21-0 at Staffa, but 'they rather got the shock of their lives when they found them- selves on the shoat end of 'a 1-0 count: until the first of the seventh here Tuesday. It was anybody's game right through, and Ted Hain - stock and Houghton, the opposing twirlers, both -deserve a big band. and also their team mates for their fine support. All four runs were of the `earned" variety. The Airmen counted first -in the third, when Philp walked and 'stole second, and tallied on ,Smale's single to left. Bruce Balfour; brilliant shortstop of Staffa, who played the sane spot last year with Hensall, very nearly broke up the hall game in the first of the seventh. Houghton and Dear- ing had both singled and were oc- cupying third and second respectiv- ely, when Balfour marched to the plate and placed a beautiful line Arrive right over and back of 'second, staring 'both runners, for .Stacffa's big two. Hainstock made Sadler and "Doe" (Kerslake ground out at first to end the rally. If was Laurin, ROAF second 'sack- er, who nearly broke up the game ' the other way in the last of the eighth. First man alp, he tripled to deep right, but threw his ankle out sliding into third. Foley ran far him. Sadler went in to :p+iteh, Bill Tiller, centrefielder, came to bat and really came through with the old-fashioned :riot-end-mun, laying a peefeot bunt along ,the first base line while Foley streaked to the plate to tie the count, Tiller also was safe ifiet Sattler tightened right ttp, :and struck out Evans,,Strachan and Mills in turn to end 'the game, while Tiller, who ,hadadvanced to eeeandl «m cateher's overbin'ow of first, and had stolen seemed, died on third.. Why Evans or Statham didn't gamble on. the hit -oral -run to ad- vance Tilley no one ever will know, but that certainly was the time to pull it if there ever was one, Ted H'nnsdtook Struck out only four men and walked no less than seven, but he was given strong team sup- port in the pinches. Foe example, the himself loaded the bases with three free passes in the fifth, but got out of the hole on two pop flies and a strikeout. Houghton famed five, 'walked three and allowed five hits in, seven innings.
