THIS AREA Salary S k e d
The Piaster weekend proved a per- .Adopted Here
ind of disastrous floods throughout
Ontario, especially in London and
the southwestern part of the Province,
Although the Clinton area was not
so hardhit as some, many cellars were
filled with water, and some streets,
especially ,those which have been dug
for sewers, became nothing more nor
less than morasses of mud. This
was especially true of Vinegar Hill,
at the northern entrance to the town,
where many ears and trucks have
been stuck during the past few days.
Floods were 'produced by a com-
bination of melting snow and rice and
heavy downpours of rain, especially
on Saturday.
Evacuated by Boat
Mrs. Hannah Glazier and her son
Percy, who reside on a farm in Hui -
lett, east of Clinton, 'were forced to
take to the second storey of the house
the water of the ,Maitland River hav-
ing caused the water to iiise to a
height of four feet downstairs. They
were evacuated by boat on Monday.
Bridge Destroyed
The 88 -foot Broadfoot bridge, four
miles west of Egmondvuile in Tuck•
ersmith Township, concession 2,
Huron Road Survey, was lifted by ice
and flooded waters and .tipped into
the river. It is now a twisted. mass
of steel and concrete, and the road
it not likely to be open for months..
The Bell Telephone 'trunk line also
completely broke down in that area,
and there 'was interference to tele-
phone service in Clinton and sur-
z{ounding district as a result of flood-
ing.
Mr. and Mrs. John D. I4sowloins,
