HONOR TO JACK DUCKWORTH
Speaking of poetry, here Is the
poem which was read to Jack Duck.
worth, Clinton Oolts hockey star, at
a ecent gathering to honor him on
his recent marriage:
"We are gathered here this evening,
We, your hockey pals
Because ,you've done gone and did it,
And taken a Clinton gal.
But we don't mind that, Duckie,
In fact we're mighty glad;
But its not that way with Goderich,
For them it is just too bad.
You came here as no stranger,
'Cause you've played down here before,
And you always will be welcome
When you knock upon our door.
We have found you to be a real good
sport,
And loyal to a game,
And we trust that you will, be that
way
To the girl you have changed her
nante.
Now you'll always have a right winger,
She will always be in her place
To greet you morning and evening
With a bright and smiling face.
But still there is someone missing
To complete the forward line;
So let's call the centre man Junior,
We think nothing could be so fine.
There is nothing more we can wish
you
Elxcept for a happy prosperous lfe,
And hope you will think of the Clin-
ton team
While strolling with your wife.
So please accept this little gift
From the Clinton hockey team'
'Cause to each and every one of them
You're held in our highest esteem."
—Amen

• Sewerav Inspection
Meaning of the words "to super-
vise," as appearing in the contract
with the consulting engineers for the
sewerage project, occasioned some
discussion, as some of the members
were of the opinion that the engineers
were not properly carrying out this
phase of the work. It was decided
to secure legal advice with the idea
of securing more adequate super-
vision or inspection.

LONDON MAJORS
DEFEAT. PORT HURON
IN MATCH HERE 7-1
Baseball fans of Clinton and
district were provided an opportunity
of witnessing a matdh of senior or
semi-professional standard when Lon-
don Majors, Intercounty League
Eenior leaders, and Port Huron Card.
inale, Blue Water League leaders,
played an exhibition game Monday
afternoon as part of the Labor Day
Celebration here.
Playig errorless ball behind the
offerings of Gilles, young right-hand
)unior star, Majors defeated Cardinals
7-1. In an evening exhibition match
at Labatt Park, London, they ex-
tended their unbeaten string against
the Port Huron team with a 5-0
victory.
.What the game here had in per-
fection, it lacked in "pep." It started
an hour and a half late, getting under
way at 3.30 p.m., instead of the
scheduled 2 pm through the late ar-
rival of the Cardinals. As the game
wore on, the weather , became miser-
able for those in the stands, and the
cool weather seemed to have a bad
effect on the interest exhibited by
the players in the game. But taking
it ,all in all, front a strict baseball
angle, it was a lovely game of ball.
Just a word for the local men who
did such fine 'work in getting the
diamond in shape. Andy Steepe and
his cohorts did one swell job, and the
diamond was realta in splendid con-
dition. Moving back the mound 12
feet seems to be a big improvement
