Girls Hit Ball Hard
Forty runs in one ball game!
That was the total in an exhibition
girls' softball match in Clinton Com-
munity Park, Tuesday evening, when
Henson defeated Clinton Lions Wild-
cats' 22-18.
It was the closest to a win the local
girls have had this season. And if
they hadn't gone to pieces in the
fointh inning they NVould have come
out on top. Isobel Chowen featured
with two homers.
Better luck next time!

ORPHANS DEFEAT
GROUP LEADING
WINGHAM HURONS
Clinton Orphans eked out a close
10-9 decision over the group leading
Wingham Hurons in a WOAA senior
softball match at Wingham last even-
ing.
After Hurons had tallied two- runs
in the last of the ninth to come within
one of tieing the count, they claimed
they had scored an earlier run in the
sixth that had not been counted. The
Clinton scorer could not agree to this
contention however.

FRED ELLIOTT'S TEAM ""
WINS AT PICNIC -Home Games -
OF HURON OLD BOYS
Huron Old Boys' Association of
Toronto, on Friday, June 14 resumed
its pre-war practice of holding all
annual picnic .complete with baseball,
races and lucky draw.
The Huronites gathered in High
Park about 5.00 o'clock and Civil War
soon broke out aa a baseball game got
under way between North and South
Huron. Fred Elliott's South Huron
"Wildcats" trounced Wes .McCutch-
eon's North Huron "Invincibles" to
the tune of 8-3 and if it hadn't been
for the interrupting call to the picnic
tables it's bard to say what that score
might have been.
After supper the races got under
way. Two little ladies Lucille White
and Sandra McKellar fought it out
for top honours in the race for all
under five years old . Lucille won.
The boys eight and under ran a hard
race, Paul McOutcheon winning but
with Leland White and Philip Jackson
right on his heels. Valerie Carter
won the race for girls twelve and
under but Gay Lowndes, and Joanne
Housway were close behind. Boys
12 years and under were nobly repre-
sented by Bernard O'Keefe who won
the race, and Ernest Carter who gave
Bernard a run for his money. Robert
McKenzie was the first across the
tape among the boys 16 and under.
Ronald McCntcheon came in second
and D021 McVay third.
The big Open 'Race for girls was a
star attraction and Mrs.. McKellar
clipped off the distance in nothing
flat to take the honours that Betty
O'Keefe just missed by running sec-
ond. The Open Race for boys was a
feature as Wes. McCutcheon had
vowed he'd redeem the honour of
North Huron after that baseball game
But alas and alack, Fred Elliott came
steaming in ahead of him.
The novelty contests were more fun
than the proverbial picnic. Mrs. Mc-
Creath won the Time and Distance
Race; Mrs. McKellar won the Peanut
and Spoon Race with Mrs. Wickens
taking second place; Mrs. Gould show-

ed that it takes a Woman to hit the
nail on the head when she won the
Nail and Hammer Contest and Mrs.
McKellar won the respect of all by
getting first place in the Needle and
Thread 'Contest as did Mrs. Wickens
by winning the Kicking Shoe Contest.
The Draw for Prizes was naturally
an exciting event as everyone knew
the prizes were to be two pair of
nylons and two hams. Mrs. Roy Lens -
way and Mr. 31. C. Sloan won the
nylons and Miss Hills and Mrs. Wick-
ens were able to bring home the bac-
on - or rather the ham.
The picnic is over for another year
but The Huron Old Boys Association
of Toronto will meet regularly until
another picnic tide rolls around.
Huronites love picnics and it is sig-
nificant that it took something as
catastrophic as the War to bring a
temporary lull in their picnicing act-
ivities.
