SPELL DOWNFALL
OF LUCAN 11.5
Clinton Colts banged Lucan hurlers
for 13 safe hits, including two hom-
ers, two triples and a double, and
easily defeated the Irish Nine 11-5 in
a Huron -Perth intermediate match on
the Community Park diamond Friday
evening last.
Freddie MacDonald held the op-
position hitless and runless for three
innings, but in the fourth got into
difficulties by walking three batters
and hitting another, thus forcing in a
run. Hudson's single and Lankin's
double :brought in a total of four
counters in the half.
But even in that inning, Freddie
struck out three •Lucanites, and when
the.game was over, he had 12 scalps
hanging to his belt and had been rob-
bed of a 13th when catcher Laurie
Colquhoun dropped a third strike and
overthrew first in the second inning.
The versatile twirler also had a per-
fect batting day with four singles in
four trips to the plate.
An early feature was Bartliff's
clean homer to right in the first,
tallying Ken 'Miller who had walked.
Hudson started on the mound for
the vistiors, but was replaced in the
fourth by Harvey Chown due to a
barrage of extra base hits by Clin-
ton's heavy artillery.
Neilans popped to Hodgins. Mac-
Donald singled to right and advanced
when Miller was safe on C'hown's
miscue, Bartliff went out at first
for the second out. Hugh Hawkins
banged a mammoth three -bagger to
right, scoring Miller, and sauntered
home on Bert White's triple to centre.
"Sticker" Glew homered to deep
centre,' tallying White ahead of him.
Laurie Colquhoun fanned to end the
half.
It was the first baseball or soft-
ball game in Community Park this
year' to go the full time, and was
noteworthy in the fact that most of
the runs were scored after two were
out. ;
