Sells Business
James Robinson has sold his Food
Shop and general store on Main St.'
to Maynard Corrie, Stratford, who
will take possession on Monday. We
welcome Mr. and Mrs, Corrie and
small son to the village. Mrs. Corrie
was formerly Miss Florence Lawson,
daughter of Mrs. Lawson and the
late IL A. Lawson, Stratford. The
family have had a cottage in Bayfield
for years.

examination results announced this
week, Miss Elizabeth •Middleton ob-
tained her Second Year with Honors.
Parents' Night
The teacher and pupils of S.S. No.
9, Goderich Township, .are holding a
Parents' Night, in the school house
on June 20, commencing at 8 p.m.
There will be a display of art and
notebooks, awards presented, and a
short music programme. We etxend
a hearty invitation to all members of
the community.
Union W,M.S. Meets
The June meeting of the W.M.S.
of Union Church' was held Thursday
at the home of Mrs. Victor Falconer,
with 14 Iadies present. Mrs. William
Porter was in charge of the devotion-
al period. A hymn was sung, follow-
ed by prayer by the leader. An article
entitled "What Is Canada?" was read
by Mrs. Porter. Mrs. Gordon Orr gave
a detailed account of the missionary
work at Battle River Hospital, Alta„
and at Hearst. Mrs. Tiiemas Sowerhy
read an article, "What Next For Us
At Lennon Creek?" A. poem, "Lord
of the Prairies," was read in unison.
Mrs. Everett Menwain read "Serving
the Commnuity," and Mrs. George
Mcllwain read an article "What
About School Homes?" The meeting
closed with the hymn, "Our Loved
Dominion Bless" and the Mizpah
Benediction, Lunch was served by
the hostess.
HENSALL
Machinist Burned
Charles Moore, who operates a
machine shop in Hensall, received
severe burns on the side of his body
and arms, and suffered greatly from
shock when a new acetylene tank
which was being set up exploded.
He was rushed to Scott Memorial
Hospital, •Seaforth, by Dr, J. C.
Goddard.
DEER FATALLY HURT
A 150 -pound deer caused about $150
damage to a car when it crashed into
the machine near Clifford. The car,
driven by Vince Sisler, Hensall, temp-
orarily stationed in Stratford as a
CNR section foreman, cane out of
the crash with a damaged grill, badly
dented left front fender, broken rad-
iator and headlight. The deer's back
legs were broken and the animal was
destroyed by police who investigated
the accident.

Bride -Elect Honored
Mrs. Edward Glen, Stanley Town-
ship, entertained her many friends
on Wednesday afternoon, June 6, at
a pre -nuptial tea in honor of her
daughter, Alice.. Mrs. C. J. Stewart
and Mrs. J. McFarlane Jr., displayed
the bride-to-be's trousseau. Those
pouring tea included Mrs. A,. Stewart,
Mrs. W. Shaddick, Mrs. J. McFarlane,
Sr., and Mrs. G. Graham, while Misses
Helen Shaddick and Margaret Mc.

Attended Funeral
Mr. and Mrs. Allen' 'Betties, Mi.
and Mrs, Frank Picot, Mrs. F. 5.
Weston, attended the funeral of their
cousin, Mrs. Pearl 'Grosvenor at Cent-
ralia. Mrs. Grosvenor, who had been
caring fel her aunt, Miss Wilson,
passed away in her sleep, having re-
tired in her usual health Saturday
night, The funeral was held Tues-
day with interment in Strathroy
Cemetery.
BLYTH
Mrs, James Claming, who spent the
winter with her daughter in Columbia,
Conn., has returned home.
Mr. and Mrs, Murray Cole and
daughter, Kathryn, were guests of
Mrs. Cole's sister, Miss' Mary Milne.
Arnold Glousher, Galt, a former
resident, who recently returned from
long service overseas, visited friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Burling and
son, Lorne, Jr,, were with the form-
er's sister, Mrs. James Crawford, and
Mr. Crawford.
Mrs. J. T. Annis (formerly Marie
Vincent) and daughters, Evelyn and
Dorinda, Vancouver, B.C., visited with
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Percy Vin-
cent.
Heavy Frost
A heavy frost visited the village
on Sunday night, damaging- early po-
tatoes, tomatoes and corn. Some of
the potatoes were badly blackened.
Funeral of J, C. Heffron
The funeral of John C. H.effron was
held in St. Michael's Church with Rev,
Father S. J. McDonald celebrating
requiem high mass, assisted by Rev.
Father Phalen, St, Augustine, and
Rev. Father Pequenette, Wingham.
Pallbearers were A. W. P. Smith, J. B.
Watson, W. J. Hallahan, P. J, Kelly,
T. McCaughey, Louis Phelan, Inter-
ment was in Brussels cemetery.
Mission Band Meets
The Mission Band of Loving Ser-
vice met in the school room of the
tn,ted C'hu,eh, Satunla',' afternoon.
Thr meeting opened with Ann Jean-
ette Watson at the piano, Joan Ker
nick read the Scripture lesion and
Joan Philip led in prayer. Prayers
were also offered by Marlene Walsh
and Glenyee Bainton,,
The members brought a gift to be
sent to the children in Europe and
distributed as Christmas gifts.
Glenyce yce Brinton sang, accompanied
by Miss Elizabeth Mills. Rhea Hall,
as peace herald, gave a reading. The
birthday song was sung for June
McNall and Joan Philip. Mrs. Mar-
shall read a chapter forth the study
book.
School Staff Re-engaged
Under the High School Area plan
Blyth Continaution school will close
at the end of the present term. The
school board at its meeting accepted
the resignation of Miss Cumming, as-
sistant at the school, Norman Gar-
rett, the principal, has accepted a
position on Clinton Collegiate staff.
Members of the staff of the public
school have all been re-engaged at
increased salaries. J. A. Gray, prin.
cipal, received an increase of $200
and the two assistants, Miss Suther-
land and Miss Fleming, each received
an increase of $100.
The school board decided to join
the Huron County Library Associa-
tion, which will entitle the school to
one unit of books; which will be
changed three times a year.

Mrs. Albert King is a patient in
Victoria Hospital, London.
Mrs. Thomas Doyle is a patient in
Alexandra Marine and General Hos-
pital, Goderich.

Ladles' Aid Meet,
The Ladies' Aid of the Baptist
Church held its May meeting at the
home of Mrs. Glen Raithhy, on Thurs-
day afternoon, The president, Mrs.
G. A. Howson, was in the chair, The
devotional period was taken by Rcv.
O. C. Anderson and Mrs. Howson.
Readings were given by Mrs Glen
Raithby and Mrs. Stanley Johnston.
A piano instrumental: was given by
Mrs. R,. J. ' Phillips. The topic was
given. by Mrs. W. Vesterfelt. Lunch
was served.
Auburn Native Dies
Word was received here of the
death of Thomas Melbourne Howatt,
a native of Auburn. He was born in
1876 and was"the youngest and last
surviving 'member of the family of
the late Mr. and Mrs. James Howatt
who resided on the farm owned now
by Thomas Lawlor, recently purchas-
ed from Nelson McLarty,
In 1902 he went west and the fol-
lowing year at Winnipeg he married
Miss Jennie Jardine, daughter of the
late Mr. and Mss. David Jardine of
Goderich who survives with two
daughters, Mrs. H. 11. (Lillian) Lar-
son, Saskatoon; Miss Belva Howatt
of Hamilton,
War Brides Arrive •
Mrs Eldon Youngblut, first war
bride to arrive in Auburn, arrived
in Halifax aboard the liner "Acquit-
ania" Monday, May 20, having a
pleasant trip. She arrived in London
on the CNR, being met by her hus-
band, who arirved in Canada in
November 1945, after serving over-
seas since December 1941- Mrs.
Youngblut was formerly Reta Brown
of Sunderland, England, and was mar-
ried to Pte. Youngblut in January
1945. When Mrs. Youngblut arrived
in Canada she received a beautiful
bouquet of redroses from her parents
in England. During the past week
she and her husband visited Mr. and
Mrs. John Youngblut. They are liv-
ing in London where Eldon is em-
ployed.
Youngblut Reunion
A family reunion and picnic was
held by the Youngblut clan on Satur-
day at Harbor •Park,,Goderich, wher.
63 of the descendants of the late
Eckart Youngblut and Emile Pike
gathered for the first time in 50
years. Four sisters and two brothers
were present for the occasion which
was arranged by John E. Youngblut,
Auburn, in honor of Mrs. Bertha
Lloyd (formerly Bertha Youngblut),
Aberdeen, South Dakota. Regret waa
felt that theyouungest brother, Ezra
Youngblut, Hamilton, was unable to
be present.
It is 60 years since the late Eckart
Youngblut of Ellice Township and
Emile Pike of Rostock settled in this
district. Many happy memories were
recalled during the reunion. Dinner
and supper were served and during
the afternoon fishing and boat rid-
ing was enjoyed. Carman and Elmer
Schultz were present who served over-
seas during World War I): for four
years, and they appreciated this op-
portnuity of meeting many of their
relatives from distant points. One
other member of the clan, Sgt. Ev-
erett Youngblut, is still overseas since
December 1939, but is expected home
in August.

To Mark Anniversary
Next Sunday, June 16, the anni-
versary services will be held in Con-
stance United Church. Rev. A. W.
Gardiner of Egmondville will be the
guest preacher. There will be no -
service in Londesboro United Church,
so plan to attend the services at
Constance.
Veterans Attend Church
Rev. A D. Penman preached two
very earnest sermons on Sunday. In
the morning his theme was "The Holy
Spirit, the Comforter," and in the
evening he preached to the veterans
of World Wars I and II, who occupied
the centre pews, on the "Power of.
Prayer." Quite a number from the -
three congregations were present. The
music was in charge of the Londes,
boyo and Burns choirs.
