den Clark.
Mrs. Robert Reid, Clinton, spent

Mrs. John Gemeinhardt, Douglas,
Wyoming, is the guest of Miss Eliza-
beth Cameron this week.
Mrs. M. Ross, Toronto, arrived on
Thursday last to spend several weeks
at her cottage, "Sum -R -Inn,"
Mr. and Mrs. R, Parker, London,
were at their home in the village,
"Wavecrest" over the weekend.
Miss Jessie Metcalf, Detroit,was
home over the weekend. Her guests
were Mr. and Mrs. Alex Avery and
family.
Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Atkinson,
Stewart and Marion, Detroit, came on
Saturday to spend a few days in the
village.
Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Will returned
to London on Sunday after having
spent the weekend at their cottage,
"Dingleton".
Guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Hovey
on Sunday included the.latter•'s moth-
er, Mrs. Bert Ruston and Mr, and
Mrs, Andrew Gardner of Mitchell.
Mr. and Mrs. James Barnes, Lon-
don, and Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Turnbull,
Mr. and Mrs. Burt, Manitoulin Island,
were weekend guests at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. E.. A. Westlake.
Pte. Ellen MacKay, CWAC, return -
ed to London on Sunday after having
spent her leave with her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. H. R. MacKay. She
expects to receive her honourable dis-
charge this week.
Mrs. George Davison, Woodstock,
and William Ross, Baltimore, Md.,
spent Sunday with their father, Mur-
dock Ross. Bill was en route to
California where he and his wife in -
tend making their home.
Mrs. Bruce Menery, :Detroit, Mich.,
is spending a few weeks with her
sister, Miss Mary Reid, who has re -
turned to her home in the village
after having spent the winter with
her nieces in Brucefield. •
Property Changes Hands ,
Samuel Hohner • has purchased the
property on the Blue Water Highway
known as the Porter farm from Rus -
sel Heard and is busy making im-
provements to the house.

Veteran Welcomed Home
Neighbours and friends of Pte. Eric'
McAllister gathered in the Orange
Hall Thursday evening to welcome
him home from overseas. Progressive
euchre was played with hi honors
going to Mrs. Forest McClure and
William Stirling. Consolation prizes
were awarded to Miss Jean .Proctor
and George Warner. Eric was called
to---theeepLer,feem and while Robert
Sowerby read the address Everett Mc-
Ilwain presented an occasional chair
from the community. Gordon Orr read
an address and Reeve George Ginn
presented a club hag from the town-
ship council. Erie replied, thanking
everyone for their kindness, for the
gifts and also for the boxes he re•
ceived while overseas.
New Club Meets
The first meeting of the S.S. No. 4
Goderich Township Community Club,
was held at the home of Mrs. Bert
Lobb, with an attendance of 12. The
president, Mrs. Forbes, was in charge
of the meeting. The minutes of the
previous meeting were read and
adopted. Various items of business
were discussed.
A quilt Wee quilted during the
afternoon, the to and lining being
donated by Mrs. Churchill and Mrs.
Forbes. Mrs. Churchill and Mrs.
Hickey were appointed as a quilt
committee. Some quilt blocks, donated
by Mrs. Forbes, were given to the

sall Wednesday afternoon.

Marks 90th Birthday
J. R. McDonald, well-known Hensall
resident who resides on highway No.
4, south of Hensall, Saturday observ-
ed his 90th birthday. The day was
spent quietly at his home by members
of his family from Toronto and Owen
Sound, present to celebrate with him.
Mr. McDonald, although confined to
his room, enjoys life and takes s keen
interest in the current events of the
de y.

The Hullett Branch of the Temp-
erance Federation held its first meet••
ing in the basement of the Londesboro
United Church on Friday evening,
May 17.
Rev. Penman opened the meeting by
use of hymn "Breathe ,on me Breath
!of God," followed by prayer. The,
speaker of the evening was Mr, A, T.
Cooper, Clinton, who very ably out-
lined the Canada Temperance Act,.
It was also stated that I1 ullett held
the unique position of being first in
the county,• to• have a( majority for
the Temperance. The following slate
of officers Was then drawn up; chair-
man, Charles Stewart; secretary,
Frank Tablyn; vice-chairman,
Frank McGregor; treasurer, Norman
