"greats" of yesteryears — and
even now—has called the practice
in his capacity as chairman of
the Sports Committee of Clinton
Lions, Club. He says: "Bring your
gloves and bats." It is expected
that the Lions Club will sponsor
baseball in the same way as it
did hockey.

Monday was the warmest day of
the year to date with a maximum
temperature of 78, The weather was
like summer. It followed a low of
24 on Sunday when there were eight
degrees of frost.

attended sessions of the Ontario
Educational Association convention
in Toronto this week. The convention
opened Monday, continuing until to-
day.

older daughter of Mrs. Pearson and to A. H. Austin, son of Mr. and Mrs.

daughter, Bertha Vivianna, to Wilfred
Ross, son of Albert Sanderson, and
the late Mrs. Sanderson, Blyth, the
marriage to take place early in May.

their eldest daughter, Doris Elizabeth
the late William Pearson,Clinton, and
the groom is the son of Mrs. Henry
Riley and the late Ernest Lee, Lon-

The .bride was becomingly attired
in a street length lime green frock.
with black sequin trim. Her shoulder -
length veil fell from a headdress of
flowers and net, She wore a string
of pearls, the gift of the groom, and
carried a cascade bouquet of pink
carnations. She was attended by her
sister, Betty Lou Pearson, who wore
a figured silk crepe dress with match-
ing headdress and veil. She carried
a bouquet of King Cardinal carnations.
The groom was attended by
his
cousin, Kenneth. Scott, Londesboro.
Following the ceremony a small
reception was held at the home of
the bride's mother. For their honey-
moon to Kincardine and other points
north, the bride donned a fuschia
dressmaker suit, with gold topcoat
a.nd brown accessories. On their re-
turn they will reside in Clinton.
The groom's gift to the bridesmaid
was gold earrings, and to the best
man a gold tie pin set.

speaker Monday night at the annual
banquet of St. Thomas Brotherhood
of Locomotive Engineers„ when 12
retiring engineers were honored.

Ivan (Dick) Newstead, 27, who re-
sided in Clinton for a time during
the past winter, while employed by a
transport firer, on Tuesday at Sarnia
elected trial by judge and jury on a
charge of shooting Ellen Boyle, 18,
Point Edward. on March 25 with in-
tent to do grievous bodily harm.

received. She was assisted by Mrs.
R. L. Parr, wearing a fuschia dress
and matTing hat. Followinging a trip
to Niagara Falls and Buffalo, the
couple will reside in Toronto. For
travelling the bride changed to a grey
gabardine suit, a grey hat trimmed
with black and black accessories, with
corsage of gardenias and roses.
FOWLER—TURNER
St. Michael's Church, Minehead,
Somerset, England, was the scene of
a pretty wedding at eleven o'clock,
Saturday, iMar•ch 23, 1946, when
Katherine Olive Turner, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. John Turner, Clinton,
became the bride of Sgt. Drew Fowler,
son of Edwin Fowler, and the late
Mrs. Fowler, Minehead. Rev. J. Brown
officiated at the ceremony and S.
Popplestone presided at the organ.
The ceremony was included in a
service in which the music was led
by a choir of boys. The hymns chosen
were "0 Love Divine" and "The Voice
That Breathed O'er Eden." The
Bridal March from Lohengrin was
played on the bride's entrance, and
Mendelssohn's Wedding March at the
close. The bells, were rung before
and after the ceremony.
The bride, given in marriage by
Mr. S. Jay, wore a graceful gown of
white sheer with silver sequin should-
er trim. Her finger-tip veil fell from
a Queen 'Anne head-dress caught with
orange blossoms. She carried a
bouquet of arum lillies.
Her matron of honour,. Mrs. E.
Davis, sister of the grown. wore a
gown of powder blue crepe trimmed
with silver sequins and a matching
feather hat. Pink carnations made
up her bouquet. Mr. Ernest R. Davis
was best man.
The reception in the Regal Cafe
was attended by about 50 guests who
extended their congratulations in
time-honoured fashion before giving
Sgt. and Mrs. Fowler a lively send-
off at the station. Cablegrams and
telegrams extending best wishes were
read at the reception. Guess were
present from England, Scotland and
Wales.
The honeymoon was spent at Tor-
quay. For ravelling the bride chose
a two-piece dress of strawberry pink
with snatching feather hat and duck-
egg bine top coat with black acces-
sories and a silver fox fur. Her cor-
sage was of pink carnations.

A . wedding of interest to many
residents of this eoMmunity was
solemnized in Erskine United Church,
Toronto, when- Leonard J. Lindsay,
Spokane, Wash., a prisoner of war
for two and a half years, took as his
bride, Bette Hart, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. R. J. Hart, Toronto, form-
erly Isobel Scott, Auburn. Mr. Lind-
say, who was a flying officer in the
RCAF, is the son of the late Mr. and
Mrs. F. J, Lindsay. Rev. Phillip
Duncan officiated.
Given in marriage by her father,
the bride wore a gown of ivory satin,
a full-length veil of net and lace
trimmed with pearls and carried a
cascade bouquet of gardenias. The
attendants were .Mrs. Jack Ismond,
sister of the bride as matron of honor
and Miss Ruth Riding, bridesmaid,
who wore aqua crepe gowns and
matching headdresses of .velvet -ribbon
feather and sequin flowers. They
carried star-shaped bouquets of pink
sweet peas. Jimmy Stevenson was
best man. The ushers. were Bill Parr
and Bill Matheson, Sill former flying
officers in the ,RCAF and ex -prisoners
of war. At the reception held at
Prince Arthur House, the bride's
mother, gowned in pale grey crepe,

A pretty wedding was quietly
solemnized in Knox Presbyterian
Church, Goderich, on Good Friday,
April 19, 1946, when 'Grace Douglas.
third daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S.
R. MacMath; Goderich;-was united in
marriage to Donald Homan, third son
of Mrs. Rutherford and the late M. C.
Rutherford, Woodstock. Rev. Richard
Stewart of Knox Presbyterian Church,
officiated at the double ring ceremony,
The bride was charming in a long
ivory satin gown, with train, and
carried red roses and white canna•
tions. Her fingertip, veil was caught'
in halo effect, with orange blossoms.
She wore pearls, the gift of the
groom. Due to the illness of her
father, she was escorted to the altar
by her brother-in-law, Sgt. D. Collier,
and given in marriage by her eldest
sister, Mrs. Collier.
Miss Esther MacMath was her
sister's bridesmaid, wearing a long
gown of white silk jersey with net, a
garland of white blossoms, and carry-
ing pink and white spring flowers.
The groom was attended by his
brother, Burton Rutherford.
The wedding music was played by.
the bride's sister, Miss Maude Mac -
Math. During the signing of the
register, the groom's. sister, Miss
Margaret Rutherford, sang, "I'11
Walk Beside You."
A wedding breakfast was served at
the Bedford Hotel, Goderich, after
which Mr. and Mrs. Rutheford left on
a honemoon trip by motor. Mrs.
Rutherford travelled in a wool suit
of black and white check, with hat of
black mohair and red roses, black ae-.
cessories and white corsage. On their
return they will reside in Woodstock.
The bride, who has been on the
nursing staffs of the Goderich and
Barrie Hospitals, was the guest of
honour at showers held by fellow
nurses, at the home of Mrs. William
Colter and 'Mrs. Bradley, respectively.
The groom returned in February
after two -and -a -half -years' overseas
service.
