. Christmas Spirit ,
The Christmas spirit was em-
phasized on Saturday evening by
the Lions Club members, by the
singing of hymns and carols and
Santa Claus leaving a treat to
each of the shut-ins.
S. S. Entertainment
The Trinity Sunday School
Christmas entertainment was held
in the Orange Hall on Wednes-
day evening of last week, with
a good attendance. Pictures were
shown under the direction of Reg.
Francis and were enjoyed by all.
Games were then played, which
were supervised by Mrs. William
Parker.
Santa Claus visited the child-
ren, giving them a gift and a bag
of . candy, after which lunch was
served by the ladies of the
church,

St. James WA to Meet
The, W,A of St. James' Church,
Middleton, will meet on Wed-
nesday afternoon, January 4, at
the home of Mrs. Charles Coop-
er. Rev. LaVerne Morgan will
be the speaker. New members
will be welcomed.
Assessment Meeting
An unofficial meeting will be
held in the school house of S.S.
No. 11, Goderich Township, on
Tuesday, January 3, at 8 rlr.m., to
discuss the recent equalized as-
sessment. The group is represent-
ed by Francis Powell .Jr. Any-
one interested is welcome.

Dr. and Mrs. Harvey Reid and
daughter, Toronto, spent Christ-
mas weekend with the doctor's
mother, Mrs. M. Reid.
Successful Concert
The Christmas Sunday School
Concert, sponsored by the Unit-
ed Church, was held in the Town-
ship Hall Friday night. All,
especially the children, report a
good time.
Observe Communion
Christmas service and Holy
Communion was observed in St.
John's Church and throughout
the parish on. Sunday, December
25, with Rev. LaVerne Morgan
as celebrant and guest speaker,
Council Re-elected
Nominations were held in the
Township Hall Friday afternoon
with a good attendance. Every-
thing weal off very quietly, re-
sulting in all the old officers be-
ing returned to office by accla-
mation,
Mr. and Mrs. Robinson Woods,
beloved and esteemed residents
of St. Helen's for half a century,
observed their 50th Wedding
anniversary recently.
During the day many friends
calledto extend congratulations
e t d n ratulations
and Mr. and Mrs. Woods were the
recipients of numerous lovely
gifts and remembrances. Among
these was a beautiful bouquet of
ton farm, died a little more than
a year after moving to St -Helen's
Robinson is now the only surviv-
ing member of a family of seven
boys' and three girls.
Mrs. Woods is in her 82nd year.
She was formerly Annie Johnson,
oldest daughter of Mr. and. Mrs.
Alexander Johnson, Brucefield,
where Mr. and Mrs. Woods were
married on November 22, 1899,

Happy New, Year
'mums presented by the Woman's
Association of St. Helen's United
Church.
The previous Saturday evening
a family dinner was held in honor
of Mr. and Mrs. Woods. They
have three children, Lorne on
the home farm, Mrs. Mabel Mug -
die and Mrs. Mel Brown (Irene)
of Kitchener.
Mr. Woods is in his 84th year
and moved to St. Helen's at the
age of seven years with his par-
ents from Cookstown, near Barrie
His father, who bought the Mor -
Mrs. Woods is one of a family of
six. Her youngest sister, Miss
Charlotte Johnson,'' makes her
home with her,
Mrs. Woods is enjoying good
health and is quite active. Mr.
Woods is suffering from arthritis
and finds it difficult to move
about, although he is quite cheer-
ful, and both he and Mrs. Woods
I appreciate the thoughtfulness'
and kindness of many friends
who helped to make their anniv-
ersary a memorable occasion.
HENSALL
Congratulations:
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Smalla-
combe, popular and life-long
residents of Hensall, were at home
to their friends on Tuesday,
December 27, afternoon and
evening, on the occasion of their
golden wedding anniversary.
Child Passes
The sympathy of the commun-
ity is extended to Mr. and Mrs.
Wilmer Ferguson, Kippen, in the
tragic loss of their little son
Jack, who passed away in the
Children's War Memorial Hospi-
tal, London, Wednesday after-
noon of Iast week in his third
year from leukemia. Mrs. Fer-
guson is the former Jean Schilbe,
Kippen.
Bride -elect Feted
Miss Ruth Hess, whose wedding
to Jack Lawrence McCloy, mem-
ber of the Civil Engineering class
of 1950, University of Toronto;
took place in Hensall Saturday,
December 17, was feted at a pre-
sentation held for her Friday
evening, December 16, at the
home of Mrs. William SmaIe, at
wheeh some 45 friends of the
bride -elect gathered to present
her with a miscellaneous presen-
tation. The home was attractive
with Christmas emblems. The
bride -elect received many beauti-
ful and costly gifts. The enter-
tainment consisted of a mock
wedding; bride portrayed by
Mrs. J. Peebles; groom, Miss
Corinne Smale; minister, Miss
Norma Sangster. Miss Ellis con-
tributed a reading. Contests were
enjoyed and refreshments. The
affair was arranged by Mrs.
Smale, Miss Margaret Sangster,
and Miss Norma Sangster.
Christmas Services
Special Christmas •services were
observed in_ the three local
churches Sunday, December 25,
with special messages delivered
by the ministers, in keeping with
the advent. Lovely Christmas
emblems decorated the churches.
At the United Church Rev. R. A.
Brook occupied his own pulpit,
At the morning service Miss
Marion Smith of Wesley United
Church, London, soloist, sang, "0
Holy Night", the choir rendered
the "Shepherd's Carol" at the
evening service the junior and
senior choirs numbering 50 pre-
sented a sacred cantata, "Night
of Holy Memories"; soloists were
Mrs. H, McEvtan, Mrs. R. Brod-
erick, T. J. Sherritt, S. Rennie.
Miss Greta Laramie was at the
organ consul, Mrs. J. C. Goddard
at the piano. The choirs were
under the direction of S. Rennie,
choir leader.
At the services in Cannel Pres-
byterian church the minister,
Rev. P. A. Ferguson, presided,
his moaning theme, "The Immor-
tal Song" The evening service
had a choral setting with junior
choir in the gallery assisting the
senior choir in delightful old car-
ols. Juniors Shirley Bell and
Dwayne 'Finney were soloists. At
7 p.m., John L. Nicol, A.C.C.O.,
rendered an organ recital. The
service concluded with the ren-
dition of the "Hallelujah Chorus"
by the organ!
I At St. Paul's Anglioan Church
Rev. C. L, Langford, rector, pre-
sided, delivering a Christmas
message, the choir rendered spec-
ial music under the direction of
Robert Cameron at the consol of
the church organ. Large con-
gregations attended all services.

The Goderich Township Council has adjourned the
Court of Revision, until
Wednesday, January 4,
at 10 a.m. in the Council Chambers in the Town of
Clinton, at which time they will hear and determine
complaints against the Assessments for 1950.
Appeals will be dealt with as closely to the alpha-
betical order as possible, for the convenience of ratepayers
who wish to attend and explain their appeal verbally.
All appeals are to be in the Clerk's hands by Jams.
